Whether it be hard slide tackle from an opponent, a rough phone call with a business partner or spouse, getting cut off in traffic or any number of daily experiences we all go through, the only thing that matters is how YOU react.

Your Perception of reality drives future Actions.

Just because an experience happens to you doesn't mean that experience has control over you or is now who you are... we aren't robots.

Focus on maintaining your Perception of reality, avoiding the pendulum swing of emotions, and playing the long game by taking calculated steps towards achieving your goal.

Only then can your Will be tested, lessons learned, and growth achieved.

Criticism is interesting; it can stem from action or inaction, and is always based on the perception of others.

Since you can't control the perception of anyone but yourself, criticism plays a major role in the foundational principal of Stoicism, Will.

Here is where it gets interesting...

The only way to avoid criticism is to do nothing. By doing nothing you achieve nothing. And by achieving nothing, well, you become nothing.

Want to become something? Have the will to face criticism head-on, making adjustments to your perception as necessary, while continuing to take positive action towards achieving your desired outcome.

To kick off the foundational principle Will, we have this quote from the great Roman Stoic philosopher, Seneca.

We chose this teaching from Seneca to start our Will series because it signifies the importance of what's naturally to come once one's Perception is strong and Actions are begun to be made.

There are only two situationally-based outcomes to experiences; you either have adversity leading to prosperity or adversity leading to failure.

No matter which outcome occurs, the adversity present tests ones will to push forward, overcoming whatever set backs are presented along the way.

Did you learn something from the outcome? Use these lessons to reshape your perception so you can take better action in search of prosperity.

But always remember, no matter how much adversity you face or how much your will is tested, you cannot control life - only your reactions to what life throws at you.

Remain level, lead with a learning mind, and enjoy each experience as they come, for only a finite amount of experiences can be had before you have had your last.

To kick off the foundational principle Action, we have this famous quote from Austrian neurologist, philosopher, and Holocaust survivor, Viktor Frankl.

We chose this quote to start the Action series because it highlights the significance of focusing on Perception prior to taking Action.

You cannot control what happens in life, only your response to what happens. If your emotions are running high and you react in a negative manner, you get a negative result in an overwhelming number of cases.

Once your mind is strong and you perceive your current reality as the Stoics, then Action may be taken and response made that lead to successes and lessons capable of being learned and grown from.

To kick off the foundational principle Perception, we have our favorite Stoic philosopher, Epictetus.

In life, business and sport, where one's focus derives directly determines the outcome of what one is trying to achieve.

In life, if one doesn't focus enough attention on your partner/significant, well, they go find someone who will.

In business, if one is focused on too many things or isn't focused enough on any particular thing, problems tend to slip through the cracks, exposing a much bigger situation in the future.

In sport, if a team isn't focused on achieving a common goal, they tend to fall short, unable to reach the pinnacle they set out to obtain.

Control you inner perception of reality, give attention to taking action, have the will to keep pushing through adversity, and one can achieve great victories.
