You don’t need to hire a full time D&I Manager to create a diverse and inclusive workplace.
In the last year I’ve seen a growing trend in jobs for D&I specialists. Overall, it’s great to see jobs open up amid a pandemic to support a much needed initiative. However, throwing an additional resource at a business issue that may be more deeply rooted may not have the intended outcome or results you had hoped for.
In order to create change, you must first analyze your workforce. Understand what barriers are causing a lack of diversity. Form a committee with current employees and get their input. Begin setting goals with timelines and hold people accountable for those goals.

If an employee feels valued they will go above and beyond. Invest in your employees and you will see the results in your bottom line. As an employer, you have a social responsibility to the people you employ. They are more than just the cost of doing business, I see so many companies get this wrong.

Teach your employees how to perform to your standards. Provide them with the tools and resources to be successful! They will be receptive.

Maslow believed that people have an innate desire to be self-actualized (be all they can be).
