It really comes down to who I am as a person, and what is most important in my life. In general, I am an optimist. I look for beauty around me - in loving relationships, in art, in nature. And as a photographer, there is nothing more fulfilling than being about to capture and share that beauty. I think the answer I gave him had something to do with the fact that I love capturing the connections be
tween people. The knowing look between a couple in love, or the emotional look of a mom as she looks into her son's eyes as he's about to be married. I love that these moments, these expressions, are everywhere in life. But what I didn't tell him was how much I really love to photograph beautiful things as well - a dreamy sunrise in the desert, a cheerful bouquet of spring flowers, a beautiful gown, a newborn being held in her daddy's huge hands. So, sure, I guess you could say that my favorite kind of photography is wedding photography, because weddings encompass that one time and place where you can find all of that beauty at once. But if you keep looking, and I do, you can find it other places too.
