Most hitters step into the box carrying a burden they were never meant to carry:

“I have to get a hit.”

But a hit is an outcome—and outcomes aren’t under your control.

What is under your control?

Your attitude. Your effort. Your intention.

Instead of thinking, “I have to get a hit,” shift your intention to:

“I AM going to hit this ball hard.”

Compete. Trust your preparation. Then detach from what happens next.

And remember—baseball is something you do. It is not who you are.

Your batting average doesn’t determine your worth. An 0-for-4 doesn’t change who you are.

When you stop playing to protect your identity and start playing with freedom, the game changes.

Control what you can control. Let go of what you can’t.

Please join me in honoring my Mentor and teacher over the last 24 years, the Icon himself, Reggie Smith being recognized tonight as the 10th member elected to the Legends of Dodger Baseball.

I’m one of the lucky Ahletes and coaches who’ve been lucky enough to get to learn closely from one of the greatest development teachers the game has ever seen. 

As great as a player as Reggie was in-between the lines as an arguable Hall Of Fame, his ability to teach is a gift that I haven’t seen matched. 

Over the last 40 plus years, Reggie has impacted a myriad of Players to become Stars, and many Coaches in helping the become their best selves.

Congratulations Reggie, well deserved to be amongst the greats like Don Newcombe, Steve Garvey, Ron Cey and Dusty Baker.
