Small business optimism just hit its lowest point in years. The WSJ/Vistage Small Business CEO Confidence Index fell to 85.0 in September — yet hiring and investment plans are climbing anyway.

Only 12% of leaders say the economy is better than a year ago. Half say it's worse. But 61% still expect revenue growth, and plans to expand the workforce jumped 6 points to 51%.

Julie Heisey spent 26 years as a championship-winning college basketball coach—until life forced a change.
