Established in 1990. It started way back in the mists of the last millennium.. i began the endeavor with a partner and developed the show through travels to the UK (as Punch & Judy is an oral tradition and no youtube yet), book research and trial & error in front of live audiences. The show itself is a One 'man' show. However, sometimes with an assistant out front that plays music and sound for the show, but primarily is there to "pass the Hat". As the roots of the show is as a street performance done in exchange for donations. As the show evolved from just an outdoor event into the parlors and libraries the show shed the assistant and became a slightly less rough, totally solo show. Today i do it in this style, and i provide all the sound and music from inside. the horns, whistles, sirens, kazoo and drum along with all the various voices.. all is done live, without a net, and nothing pre-recorded! Brian Patterson is the owner operator of the Piccolo Puppet Players and has been a Professor* of Punch & Judy for going on 30 years now. "What inspired me to become Punch's Pilot?.. well it came to me in a dream that America needed more of this classic show that was in danger of being lost. And once i started, it had me hooked..especially after learning of it's distinction as a true art form that spans centuries and has created a tradition that is to this day, handed down from generation to generation of Punch Professors"*

Kevin, our Technical Director and Master Puppet Builder, and his wife Ilana, a longtime contributor to BBMT’s most iconic puppets, lost their home in the devastating Eaton Fire. Along with their one-year-old daughter Leanorah, they’re now facing the unimaginable challenge of rebuilding their lives.

We’re sharing this fundraiser on behalf of their family to help spread the word and rally support. Kevin and Ilana have poured their hearts into creating magic at BBMT—from building beloved characters to designing the Highland Park stage we all know and love.
