D-Link IP cameras support FTP and cloud recording. In this video, we will show you how to configure D-Link IP cameras (DCS 935L, 942L, 2132L, 5211L, 7110L and later H.264 models) to upload footage to a cloud FTP server. These cameras support uploading both video clips and image snapshots.

First, create an account on your FTP server. We will use CameraFTP as an example. For a different FTP server, you just need to change the FTP server name.

Visit https://www.CameraFTP.com, sign up for a free trial and then log in, click Add Camera to add a camera. You can then click the Settings icon below the camera thumbnail to find the FTP account info which you will need later.

Now you need to find the camera's IP address. Please make sure your PC and the camera are connected to the same network. You can use the manufacturer's setup program to find the camera's IP address. You can also use CameraFTP's VSS software to find it.

Launch a web browser and connect to the camera at the IP address, then log in. It will display the live view screen. Click Setup, it will display the main setup interface. You need to configure the following settings:

(1) Video or image parameters.
Click Audio and Video, then set the video resolution, frame rate and bit rate. You only need to do it for Video Profile 1.
The video resolution applies to both video and image recording. Click Save Settings

If you use CameraFTP service, then the parameters should not exceed your service plan parameters.

(2) Motion Detection settings.
Click Motion Detection, enable it, then set the motion sensitivity and draw a motion detection area. Click Save Settings.

For motion-triggered recording, please set motion sensitivity to 85% or lower. For continuous recording, please set it to 100%.

(3) FTP settings.
Click Event Setup, click Add in the server section, then enter a server name. It can be any name. Select FTP, then enter the FTP account info from the Camera settings page on CameraFTP.com. Click Test to test the FTP settings. If it works, then click Save Settings.

(4) Media Settings.
Click Add in the Media section, then enter a media name. It can be any name.
For image recording, select Snapshot.

For image recording, set the delay seconds based on your service plans' upload frequency. For example, the interval is 10 seconds if the upload frequency is 1 image/10 seconds.

Select "video motion detection" for both motion and continuous recording. Please note continuous recording is achieved with 100% motion sensitivity.

For video recording, set the delay seconds to the video clip length. For motion recording, select "video motion detection"; for continuous recording, select Periodic and trigger every 1 minute, or you can also select "video motion detection" with 100% motion sensitivity.

For the event schedule, usually you want to select Always.
Lastly, for the event Action, select the media name to be uploaded to the FTP server.

Hikvision IP cameras and DVRs support FTP and cloud recording. In this video, we will show you how to configure Hikvision IP cameras to upload images to a cloud FTP server.

https://youtu.be/nsNHjGzKXF8

First, create an account on your FTP server. We will use CameraFTP as an example. For a different FTP server, you just need to change the FTP server name.

Visit https://www.CameraFTP.com, sign up for a free trial and then log in, click Add Camera to add a camera. You can then click the Settings icon below the camera thumbnail to find the FTP account info which you will need later.

Now you need to find the camera's IP address. Please make sure your PC and the camera are connected to the same network. You can use the manufacturer's setup program to find the camera's IP address. You can also use CameraFTP's VSS software to find it.

Launch a web browser and connect to the camera at the IP address. It will ask you to set a new password for the camera. After that, you can optionally answer a few security questions, or click Cancel to skip them. It will then display the live view window. Click Configuration, it will display the main Setup screen.

The Hikvision camera uses a default static local IP address, which may not work with your router/gateway. Usually you need to change it, or you can enable DHCP. After enabling DHCP, the camera will reboot to get a new dynamic IP address. Wait for a while, then find the camera's IP address again. Connect to the camera at the new IP address, log in and visit the main setup screen again. Now you need to configure the following settings:

(1) Image Resolution. Click Video/Audio, then click Video. Select a resolution for the Main Video Stream. It will be the recorded image resolution. Click Save to save it. If you use CameraFTP service, then the image resolution should not exceed the service plan's image resolution.

(2) FTP Settings. Click Network, then Advanced Settings, and then click FTP. Enter the FTP info from the Camera settings page on CameraFTP.com. (Advanced users can use SFTP and set the port to 22.)

For the directory structure, select "Save in the parent directory", then select Custom, and enter the camera name as the directory name.
Set the Picture Filing Interval to 1 day. It will create 1 subfolder per day.
Click Save and then click Test to check if the FTP settings work.

(3) Motion Detection Settings. This step is required for motion-triggered recording only.

Click Event, then click Motion Detection. Enable Motion Detection, then draw a motion detection area and set motion sensitivity based on your needs. Save it.

Then click Arming Schedule. Usually you want to select all times. Click Save.

Then click Linkage Method, check "Upload to FTP". Click Save to save it.

(4) Image recording settings.
For continuous recording, click Storage, then click Schedule Settings. Click the Capture tab, then click Capture Schedule. Usually you want to select all times. Save it.

Then click Capture Parameters and Enable Timing Snapshot. Enter the Interval based on your image recording service plan.

For motion-triggered recording, check "Enable event-triggered snapshot", enter the interval based on your image-recording service plan.

If you use CameraFTP service, please don't configure both continuous and motion-triggered recording. Hikvision cameras cannot upload video clips to FTP. But the recorded images can be played like video. To record video clips to FTP, you can use CameraFTP VSS software to view the live video on a PC; VSS can record video clips to CameraFTP cloud or a local folder. Otherwise, you can use Amcrest, Foscam, Reolink, Wansview, Axis or D-Link IP cameras.

That's all. Your camera will upload footage to the FTP server now. You can check the files in the FTP folder to verify whether it is configured correctly.
To view the camera footage, you need to download the files from the FTP server and play them locally. With CameraFTP service, you can install CameraFTP Viewer app for iOS and Android, or simply log in to CameraFTP.com website.

You just need to install CameraFTP Mobile Security Camera app. You can search "CameraFTP" in App Store or Google Play store, find the Mobile Security Camera app by DriveHQ CameraFTP. Then install it.

Launch the app, log in or sign up for a free trial, you can immediately start recording. It supports video, audio, image and time-lapse recording. You can adjust the recording parameters based on your service plan.

It has the following advantages:
1. Low cost. You don't need to order a new device and wait for it to be delivered.
2. It's much easier to setup than a regular IP camera. The viewer app is even easier.
3. The camera quality is usually better than an IP camera.
4. It has a battery. (so it can work even if there is a brief power outage).
5. It supports mobile data connection.

It also has a few disadvantages:
1. Smartphones and tablets usually don't support night vision;
2. Smartphones and tablets are for indoor use only. There are fewer models than IP cameras.
3. You need to launch an app to start recording. It cannot automatically start if rebooted.

CameraFTP mobile security camera records footage to the cloud. It is more secure than local recording. With local recording, an intruder could steal or destroy your smartphone or tablet, your recorded footage would be lost. With cloud recording, the recorded footage is safe, and you can easily view your camera from anywhere with a web browser or CameraFTP Viewer app on your smartphone.

It is very easy to try CameraFTP's service with a smartphone or tablet. You can change to a regular IP camera later if needed. CameraFTP is compatible with most IP camera models. For information about how to configure an IP camera, please visit cameraftp.com and click the Cameras tab.

If you have an old we**am or laptop, you can use it as a security camera. CameraFTP VSS software can turn a we**am into an IP security camera. Please watch this video about how to do so.

https://youtu.be/okRD5Z2Gqso

You just need to visit www.cameraftp.com, click Software and then install CameraFTP VSS software. Then add a we**am.

It has the following advantages:
1. Low cost. You don't need to order a new device and wait for it to be delivered.
2. It's much easier to setup than a regular IP camera.
3. It supports both local and cloud recording.
4. It supports multiple we**ams, incl. external USB we**ams.
5. Easy to wire. Internal we**ams don't need wiring; external we**ams only need USB cables.

It also has a few disadvantages:
1. Most we**ams don't support night vision, which makes it not suitable to monitor a dark scene;
2. Most we**ams are for indoor use only. There are fewer models than IP cameras.
3. External USB we**ams don't support Wi-Fi.

If we**ams don't work well for you, you can order regular IP cameras and use VSS as a CCTV DVR system. CameraFTP VSS software offers much more powerful features than a regular IP camera. It can display live video on the PC screen like a CCTV system; it can record image, video and audio; it supports local recording and cloud recording.

Cloud recording is more secure than local recording. With local recording, an intruder could steal or destroy your computer and we**am, you would lose the recorded footage. With cloud recording, the recorded footage is safe, and you can easily view your camera from anywhere with a web browser or CameraFTP Viewer app on your smartphone.
