Phoenix is revered as a great spirit that can freely travel through heaven and earth in Chinese culture. It is often associated with royalty, for example, the empress is depicted as a phoenix. A sighting of a phoenix in ancient China is believed to forebode great peace and prosperity.⁠
A common Chinese phrase says that the phoenix dances across nine skies (凤舞九天), which the ninth sky is an allusion of the Chinese heaven where the gods live.⁠
Phoenix also embodies the character of persistence and fearlessness. An ancient tale depicts that the phoenix reborn by bathing itself in fire. Its feathers become more full, its voices become more crisp and its spirit more bright. Every 500 years, the phoenix would bear the negative energy of the world and sacrifice itself in the flame in exchange for peace and happiness of mankind. This story evolved from the concept of Nirvana in Buddhism, which is a spiritual goal of release from rebirth. Therefore, the phoenix is also a symbol of endurance of pain and hardship in order to achieve a new self.⁠

Traditional Chinese QiPao/Cheongsam silhouette with a modern twist. Elegant, feminine, romantic, with a dash of red hot spiciness. The QiPao dress (like most others in our shop) is handmade with pure silk (including inside lining). There are modern blue, violet and green abstract imageries on top of a red canvas, dazzled with red roses at the chest and ankle. The dress is finished up with green trims.⁠

A Hollywood Film Noir Vibe

It’s hard not to fall in love with The Gingerbread Mansion Inn. It’s a bed and breakfast situated in Ferndale, California, with a rich local history. It is also one of the most photographed Victorian architectures in the United States. Upon seeing the photos of the room, I was inspired to do a "vacation" red carpet look for an old Hollywood star.

All of our dresses come in pre-made sizes and can be made custom to order. Please DM is for any additional size and custom order inquiries.

What is your dream vintage destination? Mine was strolling down the Victorian coastal town of Eureka in this dark green velour Cheongsam with the ocean breeze. It felt like that I was living in a vintage dream, walking pass aisles of Victorian and Edwardian style architectures like the famous Carson Mansion and the Pink Lady.

A little about this piece: It is a ankle-length dark green velour Cheongsam/QiPao gown with a sewn-in cape. It comes with a high split with a cute bow attached at the top. The back is lined with decorative orange buttons that made the dress gorgeous from the front and back. It is easily manageable with a back zipper.

My mother has always had a great passion for Chinese fashion, beauty and etiquette. She has been operating a small business selling Cheongsam (QiPao), a type of traditional Chinese dress, and other self-designed luxury jewelries. In order to raise cultural awareness and bring the local community together, she founded the San Francisco QiPao Culture Month nonprofit organization, and has now been running it for the fifth year. Working from home during the quarantine gave me the rare blessing to spend my free time launching an E-commerce store. We want to help bring her products and designs to the world. I’ve been multitasking as the artist, programmer and photographer staging the products, writing the listings and posting on the blogs. I'm excited to say that I made my first two sales last Saturday!
