My approach is direct and practical — no fluff, no cookie-cutter plans — just proven strategies around service menus, staffing, training, marketing, and branding that help you avoid costly mistakes and reach profitability faster. One of my favorite moments I got to share on Dr. Katie Chu's Chu on this podcast where we speak about working ON the practice vs IN the practice to scale for more success.

💫 Why Entrepreneurship Is a Spiritual Journey (and No One Talks About This Part)

People say “finding yourself” like it’s a phase you hit after a breakup or a big life moment. A pause. A reckoning. A chapter.

Entrepreneurship doesn’t work like that.

When you build something from nothing, those identity shaping moments don’t come once in a while. They come constantly. New problems, new fears, new levels of responsibility, new versions of you being required… sometimes all in the same week.

You are building a business, yes.
But you are also rebuilding your nervous system, your confidence, your relationship with uncertainty, and your ability to trust yourself when there is no clear path yet.

It feels like constructing a house you’ve never seen before, on land that keeps shifting, with only a loose blueprint and a very loud inner voice saying, figure it out.

And you do.
You fall, you reinforce, you rebuild, you learn what works for you, not just what works on paper.

That’s why I believe entrepreneurship is inherently spiritual. Because it strips you down to your patterns, your fears, your beliefs about worth, safety, and control… and then asks you to evolve anyway.

Not someday.
Today. And again tomorrow.

I wrote more about this, including the parts most people don’t say out loud, in my latest blog. If you’re building something big and feel like the process is quietly transforming you too, you’ll probably recognize yourself in it.

Red light saunas sound amazing… but they may actually reduce the benefits of light therapy.

Photobiostimulation works when red and near-infrared light can pe*****te tissue and reach the mitochondria to stimulate cellular energy and repair.

But in sauna environments, heavy sweating and surface moisture can cause light to scatter and reflect off the skin instead of penetrating deeply. That means less energy reaches the tissue where the real biological effects are supposed to happen.

Heat therapy and light therapy also work through different mechanisms. When combined, the body may be responding more to heat stress than to photobiostimulation.

This doesn’t mean red light saunas are useless. They can still support relaxation and circulation. But if your goal is cellular repair, inflammation reduction, or regenerative benefits, controlled light therapy in a dry environment with sufficient irradiance is often more effective.

How you deliver light matters just as much as the light itself.

I break down the science, irradiance levels, and how to use light therapy for best results in the full article here:

Had a great time joining the Built By People podcast to talk about something I’m deeply passionate about—the evolution of optometry beyond the traditional model.
We discussed the shift into dry eye, aesthetics, branding, cash-pay services, entrepreneurship, and what it really takes to build a modern practice in today’s landscape.
One of my favorite parts of these conversations is being able to openly talk about the side of optometry we were never really taught in school:
marketing, positioning, patient experience, business growth, and building something that actually reflects your vision.
Grateful for the opportunity to share my perspective and journey alongside so many innovative people building within healthcare and business.

I asked something wealthy if they ever "budget" their expenses.... and they said:

No. Why? Because we don't cut back, we make more. People need to understand how this works because you're playing two different games.

The game of increasing your income and increasing the money coming in is an infinite game. There's an infinite amount of money and an infinite amount of different ways you can go get it. And so the side hustle businesses, investments, all these different ways.

You can only cut back to zero. You can only cut back to your homeless, living on the street. And so that's probably a finite game versus an infinite game.

So in corporate, you couldn't just double your salary overnight, like it doesn't work like that. But with entrepreneurship and with our businesses, we can do that s**t. So I can just go work harder and make more money.

And so what I do is I take me and your, both of our dream lives. I'm gonna tell them about you. Every dollar you wanna save 50 cents of every dollar that comes in. And we just go make that money. And we've done that for four years, so we don't have a budget.
That's what we do.

And I love this mindset. In an infinite universe - there is always a way to expand to fit your new lifestyle, wants, needs and desires.
Wanting more is not a curse, it is the gift that fuels the fire of passion.

If you want to elevate your brand and instantly make it feel more luxurious and expensive, color is one of the fastest ways to get there.

I put together a highly curated collection of color palettes I’ve designed for clients over the years and shared them on this page for inspiration.

Whether you’re refreshing your website, redesigning your office, or trying to create a more elevated patient experience, the right palette changes everything.

These were designed specifically for dry eye, aesthetics, wellness, and modern medical brands that want to feel calming, premium, memorable, and beautifully branded.

Take a look and see which one catches your eye 👀

Ever wonder what “makes” someone lucky?

Turns out, a lot of it may come down to mindset.

There’s a fascinating study by Richard Wiseman, a psychologist in the UK who spent years researching what separates people who consider themselves “lucky” from those who feel consistently unlucky.

He gathered two groups of people:
One group described themselves as objectively lucky. Great relationships, great careers, things always seemed to work out for them.

The other group described themselves as objectively unlucky. Wrong place, wrong time energy. Constant setbacks.

Then he gave them all the same task.

He handed them a newspaper and said:
“If you can correctly count how many photos are in this newspaper, I’ll give you £500.”

What they didn’t know was that halfway through the newspaper was a huge half-page message that said:

“The answer is 47. Tell the proctor and collect your money now.”

Almost every “lucky” person saw it immediately.

Almost none of the “unlucky” people did.

At the end of the paper was another giant message offering bonus money if they noticed it.

Same outcome.

The conclusion was fascinating:
People who considered themselves lucky were more open, relaxed, and aware of possibility.

The unlucky group was so hyper-focused on “doing it right” that they often missed what was right in front of them.

I think about this often in business and entrepreneurship.

Sometimes opportunities don’t appear because others are luckier.
Sometimes they appear because certain people are mentally available to see them.

Owning a business (or several) feels… unhinged in the most honest way.

One week you’re on top of the world...You closed the deal, the numbers look sexy, everything is working.
You’re like… yeah, I’m that person. I cracked it. I am totally built for this.

Then out of nowhere, a week later…you’re in a full spiral.
“What am I doing?”
“This isn’t going to work.”
“I’ve made a huge mistake.”

And then… give it a minute…you’re back again.
“I’m a genius"
“I see the vision”
“Move over Jeff Bezos”😅

Nothing about the experience is stable or linear. It is a wave of events, emotions and decisions you are constantly having to shift with.

What I’ve realized as I’ve gotten older isn’t how to avoid the highs and lows…it’s how to stop letting them define me.

Because the high lies. And the low lies.

The high tells you you’re untouchable. The low tells you you’re done.

Neither is true.

So now the goal isn’t to ride the peak…or fear the drop…

It’s to stay somewhere in the middle long enough to actually build something real.

And even when I fall into the pit (because I still do)…
there’s this quiet awareness now:

“I’ve been here before.”
“And I got out.”

If you own a business… you know exactly what this feels like.

For so long, optometrists have built businesses heavily centered around product sales.

Glasses + Contact Lenses = The bread and butter.
For many practices, that’s still about two-thirds of total revenue.

I have noticed however, something has been shifting.

With the rise of online optical, patients have more options than ever, and margins continue to tighten. Over time, the traditional product sale is becoming more commoditized and less valuable.

So where is optometry going?

The doctors who are thinking ahead are building practice differentiators.

Cash-pay services like:
• Dry eye
• Aesthetics
• Myopia management
• Specialty contact lenses
• Vision therapy

These are the areas creating real growth.

Because what makes these practices more valuable…
is that they offer something patients can’t just find online.

It’s not just about the service,
it’s about the experience, the expertise, and the provider behind it.

When you look at dentistry, this is exactly why their businesses are so profitable high value services, not just products.

Optometry has the same opportunity.

The question is… are you building toward it?
