This summer and fall, S**o Fire Department and Age Friendly S**o are hosting another Fire Safety Bootcamp for Older Adults workshop series, designed specifically for residents aged 65 and older! Please help us spread the word by sharing this message with family members, neighbors, and friends in your life, to make sure they know how to stay safe while aging in place.

• Slip, trip and fall prevention
• Home fire safety
• When (and when not) to call 911
• Enrolling in S**o’s emergency notification system, CodeRED
• Safe disposal of medications and sharps
• ...and more!

Artists? A unique, paid opportunity. Read on…

Victoria Mansion is searching for an artist to help us interpret a research initiative! Read on for more information about this paid opportunity:

Through our "Unwilling Architects Initiative," we strive to research and interpret the lives of the 27 individuals known to have been enslaved by Ruggles and Olive Morse, the original owners of Victoria Mansion. These individuals lived full lives in New Orleans, most, if not all, laboring without pay in the Morses' hotels, contributing to the fortune that helped finance the Mansion's construction. Interpretation proves difficult without images or material culture, especially in a place as visually stimulating as the Mansion.

Thanks to generous grant funding from Coffee By Design's Rebel Blend Fund, we are now seeking to commission a local BIPOC artist to help interpret this history in a full-color, two-dimensional work that will be displayed as part of a long-term to permanent exhibit in the Mansion. For details about this opportunity, including schedule and stipend, please visit victoriamansion.org/2025/02/19/rfq-artist-search-2025. 🎨

Questions about this opportunity? Please contact Staci Hanscom, Director of Education & Public Programs, at [email protected].

On March 15 we'll be taking book donations all day! Bring us your books in good condition, and get our gratitude in return. Our book sales bring in the revenue we use to support the library.

Be kind to the library staff and drive your donations straight to the shed only during the designated hours.

* We appreciate the spirit of giving, but please only bring sellable books. If the book is torn, written in, or smells like mildew, it will be recycled.
