A fact about someone’s dating history is just that: a fact.

Never married. Divorced twice. Still single at 50. Hired a matchmaker.

None of those things tell you the whole story.

Stay curious long enough to let someone’s behavior show you who they are.

Context matters. Patterns matter. Assumptions don’t.

Confidence goes a long way.

Don’t ask your date about their opinion. Ask them what makes something a good fit for them, and let their answer show you who they are, not what they think you want to hear.

Has someone used this line on you before? What did you say back?

A man suggesting coffee for a first date is not a red flag.

The expectation of elaborate first dates made sense when you went on one every few months. It doesn’t make sense when you’re talking to 10 people on an app simultaneously.

What people actually want is effort and consistency over time. Not a performance on Date Zero.

Day one at the Global Love Institute conference, and almost every expert on stage confirmed the same thing: people are making relationship decisions way too quickly.

Lori Gottlieb talked about dating “the same person in a different package.” Dr. Justin Garcia discussed “slow love” and how attraction often builds over time. Conversation after conversation kept circling back to emotional pacing, vulnerability, and how modern dating culture has changed the timeline.

So much of it validated what we already see every day as matchmakers.

Healthy relationships are often being filtered out before they even have a chance to develop. Chemistry is not the same thing as compatibility. Modern dating has trained people to confuse intensity with alignment.

Curious which of these lands hardest for you.

Dating feels confusing when you’re tracking chemistry instead of patterns.

As a professional matchmaker, these are the four things I look for before anyone gets attached:

Clarity
Consistency
Communication
Capacity

If one of these is missing, that’s information. Not a reason to panic, a reason to pay attention.

If you’re not sure which one keeps getting overlooked in your dating life, that’s exactly the kind of thing a consultation surfaces fast.

Save this. You’ll come back to it.

I hear this all the time: “He’s great… but it feels like friendship.”

Most women think that’s a reason to walk away.

It’s not.

That “friendship” feeling is safety. It’s ease. It’s emotional stability. And a lot of women were never taught to date for that. We were taught to chase chemistry instead.

But you’re not just dating for a moment. You’re choosing someone to do life with.

Stop texting before your first date.

In the early stages, too much info before you meet destroys connection before it has a chance to start. You've already built a version of them in your head from a week of messages. Then the real person shows up and can't compete with the character you wrote.

Text enough to confirm the plan. Save the conversation for the table.

The most common question I get: what should we even talk about on a first date?

Here’s what I tell clients: skip the small talk that goes nowhere and ask questions that actually tell you something. The right topics on a first date aren’t complicated, they’re just rarely the ones people default to.

Good conversation on a first date isn’t about being interesting. It’s about being curious.
