Closing out Filipin@/x American History Month with highlights of some projects we’ve made for some of our Filipin@ clients/collaborators. Buckle up for a read!
Pictured:
1. Me, NN Co-Founder, proud Pinay American Lia Yaranon Hall soaking up the knowledge of the late great Uncle /Dr./Deacon Fred Cordova who presided over my Lola’s funeral and showed me there was a file of newspaper clippings with our family name!
Dr. Fred Cordova, along with his wife, FANHS Founder Dr. Dorothy Laigo Cordova, first introduced October as Filipino American History Month in 1992 with a resolution from the FANHS National Board of Trustees.
2. With my mom Lilia at the helm of her annual church Filipino Food booth holding up an iconic lumpia. Been doing this for decades.
3. Cedar Mannan, NN Co-Founder, mom and Godmother, Tita Josie––retired ESL teacher, crafter, Etsy-seller extraordinaire.
4. Paolo Campbell of the acclaimed Chicken Supply in front of his sarap na sarap sign.
5 + 6. Local Celebs Geo Quibuyen (whatchu know about Blue Scholars!) and Chera Amlag at the soft opening of their Chinatown/ID Hood Famous. If you haven’t tried their ube cheesecake, get off the light rail at the King Street Station. And head upstairs to their beautiful space designed by LaUnion Studio. Sign designed by Janelle Quibuyen.
7-9. Good Sister signs for the beautiful lifestyle goods and services store. Black and Filipin@-owned by the coolest Ennjoili Fleck.
This City is full of amazing Filipin@/x entrepreneurs, collaborators, fire-starters and community sustainers––too many to list here. I’ll have to come back and drop some names. Happy Halloween y’all.
