Summer’s sweetest medicine is here. 🍓🫐✨ In the newest episode of The , TPS CEO Valerie Segrest honors berries as more than just food—they are teachings, tradition, and joy in every bite.

“The Berry Way of Life” is a love letter to summer and the stories that nourish us. Valerie is joined by Colleen Echohawk-Hayashi, powerful poetry from Abi Echo-Hawk, and the voices of Tulalip youth singing səswix̌ab Martha Lamont’s berry picking song—reminding us of the deep relationship between language, land, and seasonal harvest.

📢 URGENT: USDA Pulls Plug on Critical Indigenous Food Systems Support

USDA announced it will terminate funding for the Northwest and Rocky Mountain Regional Food Business Center — one of the only USDA-backed platforms co-designed by Native-led organizations to elevate the voices and economic priorities of Tribal Nations and Indigenous entrepreneurs.
This decision halts $30 million in funding that had provided culturally relevant technical assistance, market access, and essential support for Tribal food sovereignty and entrepreneurship.

The impact of this decision:

More than 50 Native-owned food businesses will lose key financing and training support

Community-based staff and Tribal nonprofits face job losses

Traditional foods programs in schools and clinics are at risk

USDA equity promises are again left unmet

TPS and our partners remain committed to this work — but we shouldn’t have to do it alone. We’re calling on USDA and Congress to reverse course and on philanthropic allies to step up.
