🦸Is neurodivergence a superpower?🦸
In this series, we’ll explore the questions that we’re not asking… and should be.
Transcript:
The fastest way to de-stigmatize neurodivergence is to make it part of your resume that is helpful to a company where we want to know this information - there’s issues that you would have to deal with as far as like discrimination and stuff, but that would be fairly easy to solve. If this is something that we’re not afraid to disclose… take disclosure and turn it into distinction. I am a very vocal advocate for neurodivergency and things like autism, dyslexia, ADHD. There’s, I mean, the entire DSM-5, right, basically is all like neurodivergent stuff. And I think that we should be treating neurodivergency as an asset, as a strength. And we should be making this part of the conversation. Like, for example, if I am in a company, say a big, you know, corporation, and I’ve got to solve a bigger problem in a short period of time, if I don’t know who my ADHD players are in a department or a team, I’m doing everybody a disservice. Because if I need something solved urgently, I want to be able to call my ADHD people into a space and say, hey, you guys got 20 minutes to solve this problem. We’ll give you snacks. Here you go. Go solve this problem. They’ll do it. And they will love it. Like, they will thrive on that. Or when you think of dyslexia, what kind of marketing would be created if we had more dyslexic people in marketing departments? Because words are more complicated. So imagery may be a superpower that we are just completely ignorant of. And autism, right, you know, spreadsheets, routine, focus, systems building, systems thinking, all of these different things that go with autism.
Special interests, things that people have spent 20 years studying - it’s a master’s degree that you’re hiding in a drawer. I think we need to be having this conversation more.
