Small businesses, in particular, can worry about the costs of providing disability accommodations. While most accommodations are free or low cost, there are times when businesses will need to invest in access by making environmental improvements or partnering with a service provider. Many businesses aren't aware of potential tax credits and deductions: https://buff.ly/JZurO20

I'm not only a lawyer. I'm also a patient. One of the biggest ironies I see in healthcare is a lack of accessible medical equipment-- whether it's adjustable tables, scales that can be used by wheelchair users, or other accessible diagnostic equipment. I've often found more accessibility in smaller or independent practices than larger systems where you can readily find tables from the 1970s in practices and specialties where the majority of patients are elders and/or people with disabilities. While accessible medical equipment rules have been in place for a few years, more practices will be expected to meet compliance this summer: https://buff.ly/2ixb5dx

Even though the Department of Justice set web accessibility back recently, you can still be a good ally and accomplice now by checking your website. Trust me that it's doable. I showed my teen a tool and asked her to analyze my site. Then she disappeared and checked Tate McRae and Taylor Swift's sites-- which wasn't so helpful to me, but showed an application of her learning. One of my favorite free tools is

Every nonprofit deserves a good ending. Keeping boards engaged through draining conversations and logistics is tough. Clear plans, professional expertise, realistic timelines, and compassionate facilitation ease the process. A good ending is even more important at times than how you started.
