Caregivers and HHAs/PCAs are some of the most underpaid jobs (I didn’t say the only one, don’t attack me).. We spend our days and nights taking care people, getting to know them, comforting them, holding their hands when nobody else is there to hold them… We are the ones who see them on a daily basis, bathe them, cook for them and tell them that they’re beautiful/handsome. We see glimpses of their best side and we see them at their worst. We are the ones there when they have accidents and are embarrassed about them.. we make them feel like it’s okay… to make them feel like they still matter. We see them when they’re in pain, struggling to breathe, losing their balance, getting confused and forgetting who they are or struggling to remember the smallest things. Nurses and doctors play a huge role in their care but most of the time it is us who gets to know them on a more personal level, connecting with them as if they were our own family. Last night, I realized that this really is one of the most rewarding jobs.. which is why I still stay in this line of work even though we barely get paid enough to make a living..
So to ALL the caregivers and HHAs/PCAs in this lovely group, THANK YOU! Your clients and their families appreciate what you do. You’re amazing and not everybody can do what you do so just know that YOU MATTER! ❤️
