The third and final session of the”Manners for the Holidays” (Grades 4-7) was just as fun as the previous two. We completed our Pumpkin Project, reviewed how to introduce ourselves to others and how to say an appropriate thank you. We then moved to the table where we reviewed our table manners. We cut (without having chicken wing arms!) our pancake into one or two bites at a time and then dipped the bites into the syrup. Finally, we each took a turn being a server, while “the customers” showed kindness and respect. Our servers are NOT our servants. People with good manners show kindness and respect to EVERYONE.

The highlight was when I walked the children to their cars and one of them said, “Can we come back next week with the same class?” ❤️

Well….the secret is out….we have FUN!!

Last night was Day 2 of Manners for the Holidays (Grades 4-7) and we laughed and learned ALL AT THE SAME TIME. We began the class by using our words to create a “thank you” note for things we are thrilled, excited, and glad to receive (like a pair of sunnies) AND things we are shocked and surprised to receive…like a potato!! No matter the gift, we always want to have an attitude of gratitude. We continued our “table time” for table manners and began an activity for the 5 Keys to a Good First Impression. They wanted to stay to finish it but I promised we’d make time at the beginning of tonight’s class.

These kids….I hate to see this class end!

Wow! The first class of Manners for the Holidays (Grades 4-7) was one for the books! These kids brought their “A” game and completed almost TWO classes of information in one class. They were attentive, participated eagerly, shared thoughts and observations, and hopefully took home a morsel or two of information. I told them they had challenged me to come up with more activities and knowledge for them. These are GREAT kids!

The third and final day of the Manners for the Holidays Class was full of practicing our table manners including cutting a pancake into 2-3 bites at a time, how to pass food, playing an attitude of gratitude game, and because we had some extra time, we worked on our posture. Keeping that book balanced on your head is not easy, you must keep your chin lifted just so and walk SLOWLY but with purpose.

Next: The Manners for the Holidays Class (Grades 4-7) begins on Tuesday. We learn the same skills but with different activities.

Day 2 of Manners for the Holidays (Grades 1-3) was so jam-packed we ran overtime!! We revisited our 5 Keys to a Good First Impression, we received gifts and practiced our “thank you” chats even when it’s a gift we don’t particularly like, and we learned the proper way to eat a roll and “soup.” Our soup was melted ice cream….chocolate of course!!!

The class Manners for the Holidays (Grades 1-3) was held this week. The first class we worked on the 5 Keys to a good impression and talked about how to set a casual table and an elegant table. The students then created placemats using Hester and Cook placemats as their base. Talk about fancy!!
