I'm loving how this family snack zone turned out. Installing bins to categorize and contain small items is a game changer; they really help maintain order. Bins also increase storage space in these pull-out drawers by using more vertical storage space.

Holiday giving doesn't have to be about gifting more stuff. Think outside the gift box and consider an activity or experience. Sharing a talent is also a great present - for instance, if you are an expert at gardening, you can teach a friend how to start a small garden patch or herb garden. These gifts are received with heart-felt appreciation.

Sometimes we find treasures amidst the clutter! When helping a client declutter her garage, she rediscovered a vintage O'Neill jacket gifted to her by famous Australian surf board shaper, Bruce Palmer. The jacket was very special to her and she knew it was worth something; she wanted to find a good home for it. So we contacted the Surf Museum who gladly accepted the donation. My client is overjoyed that the jacket will be preserved and displayed.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Be grateful; take time to notice all of the little things we take for granted.

Sigh. Been sitting on this family history project for a year. It involves sifting through about a dozen carousels full of old slides and selecting what I want to use for the project.

The problem is time and procrastination. It's a mindset. If I keep the end goal in mind instead of the process (which might actually be fun once I get started!) I think it will help motivate me. My back-up motivational plan is leaving this stack of slides at the top of my staircase so I see them every day which will bug me and motivate me to DO something with these slides! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚. Wish me luck!!

I'm working on a kitchen edit and this cabinet was FULL of all the oils, vinegars, sauces and spices as well as teas and a few random items. I'm kicking myself that I forgot to take a "before" picture! What I want to point out is that there was simply too.much.stuff crammed into this cabinet which made it dysfunctional. I couldn't see what was stored in the back and I certainly couldn't access it.

Solutions: First, we moved the spices to a nearby drawer which greatly improves access and visibility AND frees up a lot of space in the cabinet. Next we designated categories for the shelves - oils/vinegars/sauces, tea and powered supplements. We installed bins on the upper shelves to contain the various packages and provide easy access; pulling down a bin is easier than getting a stool and trying to see what might be hiding in the back of an upper shelf. Lastly, we installed lazy susans for the oils/vinegars/sauces (lazy susans provide easy access!) and we moved large bulk oils to a lower cabinet.

The final result is order, sensibility, easy access and clear visibility. The owner said "Now maybe I won't overbuy because I can see what I already have".

After a year of slowly decluttering her father's estate, my client called for help to finish the job. She was mentally exhausted and the house needed to be cleared to sell.

We often don't consider the burden this process places on adult children; the emotional and mental stress is enormous. They are tasked with clearing out their parent's home while dealing with grief from the death, already stressed from planning a funeral, working and caring for their own family and now trying to find time to go through a house full of clutter. Add a pound of stress if the children live far away or if there are sibling rifts.

One of the best gifts we can leave our children is a house in order. Declutter now. Get rid of old books, files and manuals for appliances you no longer own. Declutter photos, old school papers and trophies. Create a file of important documents such as house deed, car title, bank and financial information. "Death cleaning" as it is called, is taking responsibility for all of the things you have accumulated in your life instead of leaving the burden to others.

This garage serves as a workshop and storage space, however, items had piled up and the entire space was barely accessible. After decluttering, donation drops and a dump run, the space is reclaimed and ready for use.

Categorizing storage (cleaning supplies, outside toys, gardening, etc.) makes inventory, visibility and accessibility simple. Storing larger items under the work tables (such as coolers and bulk supplies) maximizes space and keeps the main areas clear. The cabinets store various tools, emergency supplies, household supplies, seasonal items, outdoor accessories. Order restored!
