Your tax return should never be a guessing game.
Income. Expenses. Credits. Documentation.
Keep the records that support the numbers. 💗

A tax return can look simple when you’re looking at the finished product.

But behind that return?

There are questions.

Does this person qualify for this credit?

Is this dependent actually eligible to be claimed?

Does this expense qualify?

Which filing status applies?

Does this income need to be reported?

What documentation supports the deduction?

That’s the part of tax preparation people don’t always see.

At Edwards Tax Prep, I don’t want to simply enter numbers.

I want to understand the taxpayer sitting behind those numbers.

Because your tax return is more than a form.

It’s a picture of your financial year.

And it deserves more than a cookie-cutter approach.

📌 Follow Edwards Tax Prep if you want to learn more about what actually goes into preparing a tax return.

One of the biggest mistakes taxpayers make?

Assuming their tax situation is the same every year.

It isn’t.

Your tax return can change because of:

• Marriage or divorce
• A new baby
• A child aging out of certain benefits
• Starting a business
• A second job
• Self-employment income
• Changes in income
• Buying or selling property
• Education expenses
• Retirement contributions
• Changes in who supports a household

Life changes. Taxes change with it.

That’s why I don’t believe in treating every tax return like a recipe:

“Add these numbers, check these boxes, print the refund.”

Your situation deserves to actually be looked at.

Follow Edwards Tax Prep for practical tax education without all the tax jargon.

If you’re waiting until January to think about your taxes, you’re already behind.

Not because you need to file today.

Because the best tax preparation starts before the return is sitting in front of you.

Did you start a side hustle this year?

Buy equipment?

Drive for business?

Work multiple jobs?

Have a child?

Get married?

Buy a home?

Receive 1099 income?

Start or close a business?

These things can affect your tax situation.

And no, keeping every receipt in a shoebox until April isn’t a tax strategy. 😂

Start organizing now.

Edwards Tax Prep is here to help you prepare with purpose, not panic.

Would you rather have a tax preparer who simply files your return…

or one who actually asks questions about your situation?

Your answer matters.

Because the more your preparer understands about your circumstances, the better they can identify what information belongs on your return and what questions need to be addressed.

Tax preparation should involve more than pressing “submit.”

A business expense isn’t automatically deductible just because you paid for it through your business account.

The expense generally needs to meet the tax rules for being ordinary and necessary for your trade or business.

That’s why understanding your expenses matters.

Don’t just track what you spent. Understand what you’re tracking.

09/16/2026

Your tax return starts long before you sit down to file.

The information you keep throughout the year becomes the information you use when it’s time to prepare that return.

Receipts.
Income records.
Business expenses.
Important documents.
Major life changes.

Don’t make tax season the first time you start paying attention.
