The elephant in the room is that we’ve had some unfortunate situations recently in our field as colonials have become influencers, but continue to present as helping professionals. This breech of trust has been felt within the communities of the creators I will not be naming, and it is up to us as ethical providers to catch up with the times and figure out our ethical guidelines around using social media for macro level social work.

People seek care from organizations they trust.
They find out whether to trust an organization from someone they already trust.
Most behavioral health organizations have that trust sitting in their ecosystem: in their alumni, their families, their community partners. What’s missing is the coordinated system that puts it to work.

Let me be clear, marketing shouldn’t need to be masculinized in order to be valued by organizations. It happens too often that leaders in the field are critical of marketing teams - specifically social media teams - and struggle to see how it feeds into the organization.

It has been an uphill battle at times, but the organizations that get it, get it, and are seeing the fruit of that partnership.

The strongest brand advocates are the people who once needed you. Their stories carry more influence than any campaign with a clever message.

That kind of advocacy is not built in a marketing meeting. It is built in how someone is treated when they are scared, ambivalent, or unsure they even deserve help.

When care feels steady, respectful, and human, people remember. And when they remember, they talk.

They tell their therapist.
They tell their friend.
They tell their followers.
They tell the parent who is quietly searching for options at 2 a.m.

Authentic care has a return. Not because you ask for it, but because people naturally share what felt safe, honest, and life changing.

With a desire to create a life / work balance that honored both of our unique skill sets, but joint passion for meaningful work, we developed a plan that has by far exceeded both of our expectations.
