Fire Recovery / Rebuilding

When the fire is over, recovery is just beginning.

For families and property owners facing significant fire damage, the path forward can involve far more than cleanup. Before reconstruction can begin, debris and damaged building materials may need to be evaluated for hazards such as lead and asbestos. From there comes documentation, insurance coordination, mitigation, demolition, restoration, and ultimately rebuilding.

That is where having the right restoration partner matters.

SERVPRO of Spokane County combines hometown service with the resources, systems, and experience of a nationally recognized restoration network. Our local team can help guide the process from the first recovery steps through reconstruction, while working alongside homeowners, adjusters, and many insurance carriers.

We understand that rebuilding a property is only part of the job. The goal is helping families regain stability, understand what comes next, and move forward with confidence.

When it is safe to begin recovery, we are ready.

Fire Retardant Cleanup

That pink or red coating left behind after wildfire response may have helped protect your property — but it can also leave a stubborn residue behind.

Fire retardant can settle on:
- Siding and exterior walls
- Roofs and gutters
- Windows and doors
- Decks, patios, and fences
- Driveways and walkways
- Vehicles and other exterior surfaces

As the emergency phase ends, proper cleanup can make a dramatic difference in restoring the appearance of a home and surrounding property.

SERVPRO of Spokane County is equipped to help remove wildfire retardant residue professionally and restore affected exterior surfaces. Our local team can also help property owners understand the next steps with their insurance claim and coordinate documentation with many carriers when applicable.

The before-and-after difference can be substantial — and the sooner residue is addressed appropriately, the sooner your property can begin looking like home again.

The goal isn't simply to wash off the colour.

It's to help restore your property safely, professionally and with the attention it deserves after an already stressful experience.

Have fire retardant on your home or property? Leave a comment, send us a direct message with your questions, or share this post with someone returning home after the fires who may need help.

Smoke Damage Cleaning & Restoration

A home does not have to burn to be affected by a wildfire.

Smoke can travel well beyond the fire itself, carrying fine particles, ash, odor, and combustion residue that may find their way indoors through HVAC systems, attic vents, garages, windows, doors, and other openings.

Even after the outdoor smoke clears, residue may remain on surfaces, furnishings, carpets, and inside mechanical systems. The wildfire smoke material we prepared for Spokane homeowners emphasizes an evaluate → clean if needed → verify approach rather than assuming every home requires the same treatment.

Things worth paying attention to include:

- Lingering smoke odors
- Ash or soot inside the home
- Residue near windows, vents, or doors
- HVAC systems that operated during heavy smoke
- Indoor air discomfort after returning home

Not every property needs extensive restoration. The important part is understanding the actual condition of the home and making decisions based on evidence.

If cleaning is recommended, SERVPRO of Spokane County has the equipment, training, and restoration capabilities to address smoke residue, odor, affected contents, surfaces, and other areas of concern.

We are locally owned, backed by national resources, and here to help Spokane County make informed decisions after the fires.

Your home deserves more than an assumption. It deserves an informed decision.

Our hearts are with every Spokane County family, business, and first responder affected by this weekend’s devastating fires. While crews continue working to protect our communities, SERVPRO of Spokane County is preparing to help property owners navigate the difficult road ahead.

Once authorities determine that a property is safe to access, rebuilding does not always begin immediately. Fire-damaged debris and building materials may first need to be assessed and tested for hazards such as asbestos and lead. Identifying these materials before demolition, cleanup, or reconstruction helps protect property owners, workers, and the surrounding community.

From there, the recovery process may include:

• Emergency stabilization and board-up services
• Fire, smoke, soot, and water-damage assessment
• Coordination of appropriate debris testing and removal
• Detailed documentation for the insurance claim
• Cleaning, restoration, demolition, and reconstruction
• Ongoing communication with property owners, adjusters, and other involved parties

SERVPRO of Spokane County has established working relationships with many insurance carriers and understands the documentation and communication needed throughout a complex fire-loss claim. We can work alongside you and your insurance representatives—from the initial damage assessment through restoration and rebuilding—to help keep the process moving forward.

For now, please continue following all evacuation orders and instructions from local emergency officials. When the immediate danger has passed and you are ready to discuss the next steps, our local team is here to help Spokane County recover.
