RLS can no longer support the MLSA organization due to some substantial ethical issues that have occurred both recently and in the past. First, members of our team were forced to become vaccinated against our will during the pandemic just to attend and present at the annual MLSA conference. As a previous board member of 16 years, I found this very unacceptable and bordering on illegal. Additionally, I personally was told that I could not present at any future MLSA conferences simply because I was elected on to the MWA Board and currently serve as secretary. This is highly unethical and actually goes against what all of us should be doing---banding together with all of our aquatic knowledge for the betterment of our waters and public education.

I stand by my difficult decision based on principles and ethics and will always do what is RIGHT, not what is just popular or expected.

Hats off to RLS for placing second in the BioBase mapping contest for total distance mapped! We know that accurate and thorough mapping yields better results for reducing invasives in our lakes! Way to go team RLS…team work makes the dream work!

Team RLS is hard at work in the field. It is standard protocol for all boats to be thoroughly power washed before entry in all lakes with heat to assure all invasives are removed from trailers and boats and that transom wells are disinfected. It is law and it is good stewardship to Clean, Drain, Dry!!

Sponsor Spotlight Friday features Restorative Lake Sciences! Dr. Jennifer Jermalowicz-Jones is only one of two certified Lake Scientists in the State of Michigan with a Ph.D in Resource Studies in the Department of Community Sustainability.

She and her husband, Grant, moved to Spring Lake back in 2002. They enjoy hiking, cycling, and boating with their two Siberian huskies. Her work to restore inland lakes and bring them back to their glory is incredibly intriguing!
"It's the gratification from seeing a lake go from being extremely distraught to being much better," she says. "Seeing that progression is very rewarding for both you and the entire community!" Keep up the amazing work Dr. Jen!!
