DAY 7 🇵🇹 | Lisbon

A day of faith, service, and unforgettable experiences in and around Lisbon.

We began by exploring Lisbon's maritime heritage, visiting the historic lighthouse and admiring the impressive ships and submarine that tell the story of Portugal's seafaring past.

Next, we journeyed to the iconic Christ the Redeemer, where breathtaking panoramic views of Lisbon and the Tagus River reminded us of God's greatness and the beauty of creation.

A special highlight was celebrating Holy Mass at Church of Our Lady of the Angels, where one of the Fatima shepherd children visited while recovering in hospital. Fr Michael gave a Father’s Day blessing to the fathers in our group. Praying in this sacred place deepened our connection to the Fatima story and its enduring message of faith.

After enjoying lunch and fellowship together, we spent the afternoon in prayer during a Holy Hour with the Missionaries of Charity. We were then blessed with the opportunity to visit and spend time with elderly residents, sharing companionship, kindness, and Christ's love through simple acts of presence and service.

We gathered that evening for dinner and sharing of the graces but of course nothing would be complete without Fr. Michael and his magic tricks. 

A day that beautifully combined pilgrimage, prayer, joy, and service to others.

DAY 6 🇵🇹 | Lisbon

A day immersed in the rich Catholic heritage and history of Portugal's capital city.

We began at the Jerónimos Monastery, dedicated to Our Lady of Belém, a masterpiece of Manueline architecture and one of Portugal's most treasured landmarks.

Next, we visited the Church of Saint Anthony of Lisbon, yes “of Lisbon” 🫢 not “of Padua”. It built on the site where Saint Anthony was born. It was a special opportunity to pray and reflect at the birthplace of one of the Church's most beloved saints.

Our pilgrimage continued to the beautiful Estrela Basilica, officially the Royal Basilica and Convent of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, renowned for its stunning dome, sacred art, and devotion to the Sacred Heart. It was a short visit as a service was taking place when we arrived.

The highlight of the day was celebrating Holy Mass at the historic Lisbon Cathedral, the oldest church in the city and the seat of the Patriarch of Lisbon. Gathering in prayer within its ancient walls was a meaningful and memorable experience especially when we realized we had been locked in!

The afternoon was open to free time. Great food, taxi rides, & shopping. Some of us visited the oldest operating bookstore and to one of the smallest bookstore in the world. Of course the day wouldn’t complete without getting the famous local pastel de nata, which originated at the nearby Jerónimos Monastery in the 1800s.

DAY 5 🇵🇹 | Fátima • Batalha • Alcobaça • Nazaré • Lisbon

After departing Fátima in the morning, we continued our pilgrimage through Portugal's rich history, faith, and stunning landscapes.

We began with a visit to the Monastery of Batalha, admiring its remarkable Gothic architecture and centuries of history. We then explored the beautiful Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Alcobaça, one of Portugal's most treasured UNESCO World Heritage sites. On our way to the bus we were serenaded by a fadista, telling us goodbye.

The day continued to the charming coastal town of Nazaré, where we enjoyed breathtaking Atlantic Ocean views and visited the church and celebrated Mass which held a statue of the Virgin Mary said to have been carved by Saint Joseph overlooking the coastline. The dramatic cliffs, crashing waves, and endless blue horizons made for unforgettable moments.

With hearts and cameras full of memories, we continued on to Lisbon, ready to experience the beauty of Portugal's capital city.

Day 4: Grace, Forgiveness, and Prayer in Fátima & Coimbra ✨🕯️🙏

We traveled to Coimbra and visited the tomb of Saint Elizabeth of Portugal at the historic Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Nova. There, we received a six-foot candle that would later be carried during the evening Rosary and candlelight procession in Fátima, representing all of our intentions and petitions to Our Lady.

We also visited the Convent of Saint Teresa, where Sister Lúcia lived until her death. Holy Mass was celebrated there, and Fr. Michael preached on the importance of forgiveness, reflecting on the Lord's Prayer and Christ's call to mercy. During our visit, we were blessed to receive second-class relics of Sister Lúcia.

At midday, pilgrims enjoyed lunch on their own in the beautiful historic center of Coimbra, while some chose to continue their fast as part of their spiritual offering.

In the evening, a few members of our group walked the Stations of the Cross and visited the site where the Angel of Peace gave the children of Fátima their first Holy Eucharist, preparing them for the apparitions to come.

We concluded the day once again with the Rosary and the moving candlelight procession in Fátima. Fr Emmanuel Noel joined us in lifting up the prayers, hopes, and intentions entrusted to us throughout this pilgrimage.

Pilgrimage Day 3 – Walking in Faith and History 🇵🇹✨

Today we traveled to the magnificent Convent of Christ, once home to the legendary Knights Templar. Standing within its ancient walls, we reflected on the courage, faith, and sacrifice of those who helped shape Christian history. The window with the bench faces the Holy Land and brings it the majority of the light within the chapel. Outside we were met with a local farmer and all shared in a snack.

We then journeyed to Aljustrel and Valinhos, the humble village where the three shepherd children—Lúcia dos Santos, Francisco Marto, and Jacinta Marto—lived before the events that would change the world. Visiting their family homes offered a moving glimpse into their simple lives and profound faith. We walked the paths where the children prayed and encountered an angel and Our Blessed Mother.

In the afternoon we celebrated Mass at the Chapel of the Apparitions, entrusting our intentions to Our Lady. We visited the tombs of the 2 saints and Ven. Lucia of Fátima

During our free time, some rode the train, went shopping, and visited different museums.

As evening fell, we joined pilgrims from around the world in the Rosary lead by a Bishop and candlelight procession—a beautiful witness of faith, unity, and devotion. We were especially blessed when one of our own pilgrims was invited to lead the Fourth Decade of the Rosary, a memorable and grace-filled moment that made the experience even more special for our group. The procession took place under a breathtaking night sky, where brilliant Venus shone above a delicate crescent moon—a gentle reminder of God's beauty and the light that guides us on our journey.

Our even concluded by visiting the 3 rooms where the popes have stayed while in Fátima.

Pilgrimage Day 2 ✨

It was a day filled with faith, history, and grace.

We visited the Church of the Eucharistic Miracle in Santarém, Portugal, where the centuries-old Eucharistic miracle from February 16, 1247 is preserved—a powerful reminder of Christ’s real presence in the Eucharist.

We also had the privilege of staying where popes have stayed during their visits to Fátima, a humbling connection to the many pilgrims who have come before us.

The day concluded with the beautiful candlelight procession in Fátima. Thousands of pilgrims gathered in prayer, carrying candles through the night as hymns echoed across the sanctuary. It was a moving witness to faith, hope, and devotion to Our Lady.

Grateful for every step of this pilgrimage journey and for the blessings experienced yesterday. 🙏🕯️❤️
