ANTIQUES ROADSHOW has won its first-ever Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Structured Reality Program — and St. Louis played a part in bringing the award-winning season to life!

Season 30’s Grant’s Farm, Hour 3 was the episode submitted for Emmy consideration, showcasing one of St. Louis’ most iconic destinations on the national stage.

Congratulations to the Antiques Roadshow l PBS team, Grant’s Farm and all of the local partners and crew who worked behind the scenes to make this production possible. 👏🎥

🎬 A message from St. Louis Filmworks co-founder Shad Schoenke:

August 28–30, Legend of the White Dragon is playing in St. Louis theaters. This is a very personal film.

The writer/director is my nephew Aaron Schoenke. My brother Sean is the composer and sound designer.

For years, they have made videos. It started when Aaron was around 9 years old. He basically started with a VCR, thrift store costumes, and cardboard props. From there, his videos eventually got onto Dailymotion, then YouTube. Their YouTube channel, Bat in the Sun, exploded with Super Power Beat Down.

Aaron was the reason I began St. Louis Filmworks.

He and his dad visited St. Louis around 12 years ago. It was his first time seeing St. Louis as an adult, through the eye of a director. He insisted I take him on a tour of the city. At each location, he was choreographing fight scenes and stories.

At that time, we didn’t have the tax credit and wouldn’t attract major productions. But I was certain there were “kids” like Aaron in the area. Kids with a vision, talent, and an iPhone.

Rather than big productions, let’s make St. Louis a playground for creators. Our goal is for local filmmakers to succeed as they define it for themselves.

For thirty years, I’ve watched from the sidelines as Aaron went from an excited kid showing me his first video on VHS to a feature in 600 theaters. Crazy!

He didn’t go to film school, study acting, or have the best gear, but through persistence, vision, and gut-wrenching courage made it to the big screen.
