I LOVE this because it applies to so much more than business.

We often focus on the destination the successful business, stronger finances, healthier relationships, deeper faith, better habits, greater impact, or completely different life.

But the destination is usually built in the things no one sees.

The structure you build.
The standards you set.
The boundaries you keep.
The habits you repeat.
The decisions you make when no one is watching.
And the actions you take every single day.

In business, you can’t sustainably scale beyond the structure you’ve built to support the growth.

And I’ve found the same principle applies to life. If you want something different, sometimes the answer isn’t to dream bigger. Sometimes it’s to build differently.

Evaluate what’s working. Identify what isn’t. Strengthen the foundation. Create a plan. Then consistently take the actions that move you toward where you want to be.

I want to share one of the most powerful (and often overlooked) strategies when it comes to securing ongoing funding:

Send impact metric reports! EVEN when they’re not required.

Most organizations only communicate with funders when they have to. But the organizations that stands out getting funded again, are the ones who go above and beyond.

Guys, don’t just receive funding… build a new relationship.

When you take the time to send a simple impact update, you’re doing a few key things:
- Showing transparency
- Demonstrating stewardship
- Reinforcing trust
- Keeping your organization top of mind

And trust me… funders DO remember this.

What This Looks Like in Action 💯

After receiving an award, send:

1. A Thank You Letter
Express genuine gratitude. Let them know their support matters.

2. A Simple Impact Report (3–6 months later)
Include:
- What the funds were used for
- Key outcomes or wins
- Lives impacted (numbers + stories)

3. A Photo of Your Program in Action
This is HUGE. It brings your mission to life and helps funders see their impact.

Why This Works

When funders feel connected to your work, they don’t just give once, they:
- Give again
- Increase funding amounts
- Refer you to other funders

Most nonprofits and businesses approach grants the wrong way.

From there, the list is narrowed down to the highest-potential opportunities with a strong likelihood of award.

In this romantic flow of composition, storytelling becomes more than communication, it becomes connection. A well-told story lingers, echoing long after the last line is read, reminding us that words have the power to heal, inspire, and illuminate the unseen corners of the soul.

Creative writing has a romantic flow, a gentle rhythm where imagination, emotion, and language come together to form meaningful stories. It’s the art of shaping words into something alive, where each sentence carries tone and intention, and a narrative unfolds with purpose. Storytelling draws people in, helping them see the world through a different lens, feel deeper connections, and understand the human experience in a way that facts alone never could.

But competitive grant writing is a very different kind of storytelling.

All the romance of creative expression gives way to discipline, precision, and strategy. A powerful grant proposal is built on deep research, carefully constructed narratives, and measurable impact. It requires understanding the funder’s priorities, aligning programs with real community needs, and translating vision into concrete results. Every word must serve a purpose. Every claim must be supported. Every outcome must be measurable.

It means building the perfect narrative backed by evidence and expressing impact through metrics, outcomes, and clear evaluation plans. It means finalizing budgets that make sense down to the dollar, coordinating with leadership, and getting board members aligned often right up against a deadline. It requires organization, persistence, and the ability to hunt down details until everything fits together seamlessly.

Grant writing is pressure.
Grant writing is precision.
Grant writing is strategy.

And honestly… if you don’t enjoy the pressure, if you don’t enjoy the research, if you don’t enjoy chasing down information and turning it into a winning proposal then it makes sense to hand the baton to someone who does.
