My perennial herb garden is ready for winter! May not look like much now but these herbs are going to be so beautiful come spring 2026! Planted 10/18/25 and will patiently wait for May/June 2026 to start to see the results of my fall labor. Relocated herbs from the garden beds to their new permanent homes. I will plant even more herbs in the spring but I want to establish these guys now!
Planted in the herb bed is Lavender, Rosemary, Thyme, Sage, Garlic, and Chives. Come spring I will also be adding Echinacea, Lemon Balm and Oregano. Beautiful summer gardens start with Fall planning! It's not too cold yet!

Two weekends ago, we were visiting family in CT and discovered this cute town about an hour away in Bethlehem that was hosting a garlic harvest festival. It was the perfect fall activity and just the thing we were looking for. Got Garlic? They had all plenty of garlic flavored foods, t shirts, necklaces to keep away the vampires, garlic bulb hats and so much more! It overflowed my fall festival cup!

I decided to pick up my first pound of German Red Garlic seed bulbs. They thrive in our winters here in PA and their robust, spicy flavor is a must have in our kitchen. They have a purplish-brown or purplish-white skin and are part of the hard neck variety so the shelf life is only about 5 months. I'm sure we will use it up by then, or gift some away next summer! So far I planted 55 bulbs in the raised and herb beds and still have a bunch to spread around the garden! I will be adding some around the perimeters of my 'in ground' beds to help deter my rabbits, deer and even the ground hogs. The scent of garlic also helps repel mosquitoes, so around the pool I go, I guess, we will see where the last 20 or so go!

The garden kept me busy this summer! Here are some photos of the garden and some harvests I had! Watching the garden grow all year has been so relaxing with moments of "what did I do wrong this time" but the comeback has always been greater than the setback. New for me this year was eggplant, roma tomatoes, pumpkins, and some new herbs were added as well! Our season started rainy and I was afraid the garden would flop, and I lost a lot of seedling I started indoors, but it filled in so beautifully! I'm so blessed with our abundant harvest! Feeling excited to start NEW Fall planting: garlic, carrots and onions. Lets see what the cold can do!

Today is a beautiful day to be outside in the garden! With cloudy skies and warmer temps, and the breeze! What more could you ask for!

Today I am planting my Romas, Oregano, Parsley, Basil, Calendula and Nasturtium in bed #4.

After planting my seedlings I covered them with the plastic tarp to create a nice outdoor greenhouse for them to continue to thrive in their new home!

Lower temperatures will continue fluctuate for a few weeks, but I'm hopeful we are at the end of the freeze warnings and ground temps have averaged above 50° for over the last 5 days! However, I am prepared to protect my veggie babies if the weather turns!
