Weekly Weather Update: A gradual warming trend expected this week with rain chances returning this weekend. Temperatures this afternoon are expected to be a bit warmer than yesterday's highs.

Payne County Emergency Management was requested to assist with a commercial building fire on the west side of Yale. Fire crews arrived to find heavy fire and smoke inside Mugsy’s Grubhouse and worked on fire suppression. We are saddened to see this happen to a business that means so much to the community. Our thoughts are with the owners, employees, and everyone affected.

..FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING TO FRIDAY EVENING...

* WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast.

* WHERE...Cimarron River near Ripley.

* WHEN...From this evening to Friday evening.

* IMPACTS...At 18.0 feet, Places along the Cimarron River valley in
Payne County are briefly flooded to depths of about a foot.
Agricultural lands and oil wells located near the river banks are
inundated or cut off by water in side channels.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 8:00 AM CDT Thursday the stage was 7.2 feet.
- Bankfull stage is 17.0 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage this
evening to a crest of 17.8 feet just after midnight tonight. It
will then fall below flood stage early tomorrow afternoon.
- Flood stage is 17.0 feet.

Potential for heavy rain and flooding continues to increase Wednesday and Thursday, especially in areas in orange where multiple rounds of heavy thunderstorms could lead to localized totals of 3-6" by the time things taper off Thursday evening.

AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHERE...Portions of Oklahoma, including the following counties,
Alfalfa, Beckham, Blaine, Caddo, Canadian, Cleveland, Comanche,
Custer, Dewey, Ellis, Garfield, Grady, Grant, Greer, Harmon,
Jackson, Kay, Kingfisher, Kiowa, Lincoln, Logan, Major, McClain,
Noble, Oklahoma, Payne, Roger Mills, Tillman, Wash*ta, Woods and
Woodward and northern Texas, including the following counties,
Baylor, Foard, Hardeman, Knox and Wilbarger.

* WHEN...From Wednesday morning through Thursday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected from
early Wednesday through Thursday morning. Storms will include
very heavy rainfall rates. Widespread rainfall amounts of 1-3
inches are likely, and a few locations will see totals as high as
5 inches.

Weekly Weather Update: Becoming warmer each day with above normal temperatures for early October with no rain expected this week into the weekend.

Payne County Emergency Management assisted with a wildfire near West Point Road and 74th Road. Ripley Fire Department arrived to find a fast-moving fire spreading north toward nearby homes. Fire crews made a quick, aggressive attack and successfully stopped the fire’s spread and prevented any homes from being damaged.
