You don't breed dogs, so you might be wondering, what is the CHIC database anyways?

CHIC (Canine Health Information Center) number for dogs is a unique tracking number that the OFA gives when a dog completes all recommended health tests for it's specific breed, and the owner agrees to make those test results public. The data base and requirements are managed by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA).

What does that mean for you? It means that when you get a puppy from us, we have done our very best to check for any known Labrador specific health/genetic issues prior to breeding any of our dogs. That allows you to breath a little easier when you get a puppy or trained dog from us at PRGD, knowing they have been set up genetically to the best of our human ability.

I have had the pleasure of working with Remi, this sweet (almost) 7 month old Australian Shepard, and her owner (whose age I didn’t ask, cause she’s a lady. And you never ask a lady her age! ☺️). They opted to do our 6 week In-Home Obedience program, and have done so good. You can just see how much fun they are having together, even though, sometimes, it isn’t easy.

I have to celebrate their hard work! Only 3 weeks in to training, and they have moved the wait/place command outside to the porch. For a young dog, all the excitement of being outside adds a whole new challenge. But you add to that the fact that she is busy working breed, and seeing 5 1/2 minutes is an AWESOME day of training.

Remi and Kim are proof that putting in the work…. WORKS! Great job to you both!

As a part of our board and train program, we invite families in to work with their dogs. It’s not only so they can see the progress their dog is making, but it helps give their families the tools they need to maintain what their dog achieves while they are with us. It also gives us an opportunity to address other needs they may have. But most importantly, it gives them a chance to see their dogs.

Mason reached out to us after he put a deposit down on his puppy to plan for training as soon as he got him home at 8 weeks. Even though Oden isn’t a Paragon puppy, we have been fully invested in getting him the training Mason was hoping for from day one.

Luckily Mason lives close enough that he is able to come out and see Oden’s progress, and learn too. It’s a lot of fun to watch clients get to know their dog on a new level and hear their excitement.
