Nobody teaches sustainability in midwifery school. Nobody models it in most apprenticeships either. What gets modeled instead is “give everything you have, then give more,” until there’s nothing left to give.

That’s not a calling. That’s a burnout pipeline with better PR.

I’ve watched this pattern play out with students for 25 years, and it almost always traces back to the preceptor relationship.
