Congratulations to this year's Tacoma LGBTQ+ Community Pride Award recipients, and thank you to the Rainbow Center for hosting another inspiring celebration of our community and its leaders.

It was great to see friends Michelle Douglas and Troy Christensen recognized, learn about the important work of the other award honorees, and honor the late Mattice Hoyt, whose enduring legacy was recognized.

Michelle Douglas
She/Her | Diamond Award -
This Lifetime Achievement Award is given to an individual for consistent and exemplary service to the LGBTQIA2S+ community of Pierce County over a lifetime.

Troy Christensen
He/Him | Pearl Award
Given to an individual who identifies as part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community for service to the LGBTQIA2S+ community of Pierce County, particularly service rendered in the past year.

Liz Johnson
She/Her | Ruby Award
Given to an individual who is not part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, but whose actions have directly benefited the community. This may be awarded for service in the past year, or for service rendered over an extended period of time.

Puyallup Tribe Pride Committee
Emerald Award
Given to a community-based organization or business for service to the LGBTQIA2S+ community of Pierce County, particularly service rendered in the past year.

Elena Angeles
Sapphire Award
Given to a youth for service to the LGBTQIA2S+ youth community of Pierce County. This award is open to youth ages 14-23.

Mattice Hoyt
Amber Award
The Amber Award is presented posthumously in honor of an individual whose legacy of service, advocacy, and compassion created a lasting impact on the LGBTQIA2S+ community of Pierce County. This award recognizes the enduring influence of their work and the values they embodied throughout their life.

This is exciting news from Candid for fiscally sponsored programs and projects (that don't have their own EIN)! Fiscally sponsored work makes a huge impact in our communities but before could not get the same visibility as formal nonprofits. Here's what they said:
