Buying a used boat? Don't skip the oil sample.
One of the smartest (and most overlooked) steps in a pre-purchase inspection is having the engine oil sampled and lab-tested. It's a small step that can reveal big problems before you buy.
A lab analysis can catch:
🔍 Metal particles → early signs of internal engine wear
💧 Water or fuel in the oil → leaks, bad seals, or a boat that's been sitting
🌡️ Degraded additives → how well (or poorly) the engine has actually been maintained
This video walks through exactly how to pull a proper oil sample — the same process works for the generator and transmission too, so you get a full picture of the boat's mechanical health, not just the main engine.
