A major milestone for the future of Port Angeles! 🏗️

Last week, students, staff, community leaders, and project partners gathered onsite to celebrate the placement of one of the final structural steel beams at the new Hurricane Ridge Middle School. Over 450 students signed the ceremonial beam before it was lifted into place, leaving their mark on a school that will serve generations to come. The FORMA team, School Board, Capital Advisory Committee, Integrus Architecture, and Vanir added our signatures too, a small but meaningful nod to everyone helping bring this project to life.

One of the highlights of the day was seeing Port Angeles School District Superintendent Michelle Olsen suited up and safely hoisted into position to help install a structural steel bolt alongside the project team, a fitting symbol of the District's hands-on commitment to the future of education in Port Angeles.

Thank you to the Port Angeles community for trusting us with this work. We're proud to help build it.

As National Apprenticeship Week comes to a close, we’re thinking about all the ways the next generation finds its way into the trades: sometimes on a jobsite, sometimes in a classroom, and sometimes through something as simple as LEGOs (or complex, depending on whom you ask!). 🏗

From Try-a-Trade events and Pierce County Construction Career Day to STEAM nights, school visits, student groundbreakings, and hands-on activities, these moments give students a chance to see construction up close, ask questions, try something new, and picture a future they may not have considered before.

We also want to give a huge shoutout to the Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Foremen, and field leaders who keep that future moving every day. So much of this industry is learned person to person, by watching, asking, practicing, and being taught. Thank you to the mentors who make space for that learning and help the next generation find their footing in the field.

Apprenticeships aren’t just important, they’re essential. ✅

In 2026, the industry will need to attract an estimated 349,000 new workers to meet demand, and apprenticeships are one of the best ways to build that future from the ground up. They create pathways for people to learn a skilled trade, earn while they grow, and step into long-term careers with stability, opportunity, and purpose.

They also help our industry keep up with a changing workforce by closing skills gaps, supporting the next generation of builders, and evolving how we train for the realities of modern construction.

Today, we’re celebrating our current apprentices with a few field photos of the next generation of builders in action. 🛠

It’s , and we’re celebrating the people building their futures in the trades.

As workforce dynamics continue to shift, more people are choosing construction as a strong alternative to a college path. When we asked our apprentices why they chose the trades, one theme came through loud and clear: stability.

Construction offers a living wage, health insurance, the ability to save for retirement, and opportunities for long-term growth. For our apprentices, it’s more than a job; it’s a career path with a future.

Check out what they had to say below!

The future of construction is already on the jobsite. 💪😎

It's National Apprenticeship Week, and we’re celebrating the apprentices who show up every day ready to learn, build, problem-solve, and grow in the field.

Across FORMA, we currently have 20 apprentices working on 9 different projects, including Carpenters and Laborers gaining hands-on experience delivering meaningful work for our clients and communities.

Construction apprenticeships continue to dominate nationally, representing 35.7% of total apprenticeships across all industries. Here at FORMA, our apprenticeship numbers tell a story we’re proud of:
- 20 apprentices total
- 75% Carpenters and 25% Laborers
- 10% women apprentices, above the national average of 4.7%
- 6 apprentices who have worked on multiple FORMA projects

Many of our apprentices have been with FORMA throughout their entire apprenticeship, building their skills, confidence, and careers alongside our project teams.

We’re proud to support the next generation of skilled builders and leaders. See you tomorrow for an inside look at our apprentices on the job!

Well, wood you look at that, the Maritime Innovation Center is nearly complete!

Last week, we were proud to help host an AIA Seattle tour at Fisherman’s Terminal alongside The Miller Hull Partnership, PND Engineers, Inc., and The Greenbusch Group, sharing a closer look at the remarkable transformation of the Port of Seattle’s historic former Ship Supply Building utilizing mass timber.

Now nearing completion, the Maritime Innovation Center is pursuing full Living Building Challenge certification, the world’s strictest environmental metric, with only 35 buildings worldwide certified to date.

It is the kind of work that demands patience, precision, and a whole lot of coordination, and it is an accomplishment we are incredibly proud to help bring across the finish line.

Yesterday we broke ground on the NTPS LEAF Center — North Thurston Public Schools' new Lacey Education & Family Center — and it was everything a groundbreaking should be: community, celebration, and one very enthusiastic little co-pilot.

The highlight? A young attendee got behind the wheel of a small dump truck for the ceremonial first dig, with Superintendent Brett Bowen on hand to make sure all systems were go. 🚜

The LEAF Center will serve up to 600 students annually with high-quality preschool spaces, family programming, and a commercial kitchen. Approved by voters as part of the 2024 Capital Levy for Safety, Technology, and Facilities Improvement, the building is designed to grow alongside the community — with potential future additions like a splash pad, library space, and indoor recreation. Doors open fall 2027. We can't wait!

Beam there, built that! 😎🏗️

We had a great time at last night’s Federal Way Public Schools STEAM Exploration Night, where students stopped by the FORMA activity to learn how structural beams help keep buildings safe, stable, and strong. Through a little engineering and a lot of curiosity, they got a firsthand look at the physics behind structural design.

Thanks for having us, FWPS; we loved being part of an evening full of exploration and hands on fun. ✨

Full STEAM Ahead 🚀

This Thursday, we’re headed to FWPS STEAM Exploration Night for an evening of curiosity, creativity, and hands-on fun. FWPS families, come explore, experiment, and see where science, technology, engineering, art, and math can take you.

See you at Federal Way High School from 6 to 8 p.m! ✨

Class is in session... on the jobsite 👏🏗️

A couple of weeks ago, on a beautiful day in PA, we welcomed students from Port Angeles High School’s Construction Pathways, CTE program at our Hurricane Ridge Middle School project.

There’s nothing quite like seeing learning come to life in the field. From lifting a tool belt like the ones laborers carry onsite every day to watching structural steel go up in real time, students were immersed in the skill, teamwork, and effort it takes to bring a project like this to life.

The new Hurricane Ridge Middle School will replace the former Stevens Middle School with a three story, 109,000 square foot facility serving 950 students in grades 6 through 8, complete with 40 classrooms, administrative areas, and instructional support spaces.

We’re proud to support building these biceps of steel 💪 and grateful to partner with Port Angeles High School and Port Angeles School District, connecting future builders to career opportunities right here at home. ✨
