Black History Month Ends.
As Black History Month ends, and while devastating current events are happening in the world, they cause me to reflect more deeply on my “why” which is to continue to advocate for the rights of people and continue to unite diverse people with diverse gifts and talents for a greater and “higher” cause.
We must acknowledge the long-lasting and traumatic effects that slavery has on many Black people in America and the World. We, the people of the United States must make every effort to continue to eradicate all covert and overt forms of abuse, aggression, oppression, and racism that take place against all people of color, women, and children in our businesses, schools, churches, and organizations. This acknowledgment will allow us to continue to move forward as the strong United States of America.
We may have opposed political, religious, or philosophical views. However, I believe that if we waiver and become confounded about what true freedom, respect for humanity, and civil liberties feel and look like for all (and not just for some), we will weaken our stance and place in the world. The world is watching.
We know in all other circumstances, if we do not learn from the mistakes of the past, we will certainly continue to repeat them. I ask our leaders of influence all over the world to continue to condemn every and all act of abuse, oppression, racism, and civil rights violations against humanity, and institute urgent and intentional approaches and systems to protect the rights of people. These approaches and systems must be accompanied by equal and equitable opportunities for continued improvement and advancement and sustainable success. These approaches are not simply good for business but good for our country, and humanity. It is our social and civic responsibility.
Today, I pray for the protection of the people of the United States and our freedoms. I am thankful for all the people who have helped build this country, including my ancestors, who paved the way for a better life for us, a better life for me. I also pray for World Peace, and I stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
