Elon Musk’s trillion-dollar moment didn’t last long, but it still showed just how central SpaceX has become to his empire.

The aerospace giant’s historic IPO became the largest public offering ever, raising a record $75 billion and pushing SpaceX’s valuation above $1.7 trillion. The debut briefly sent Musk’s net worth past $1 trillion, making him the first person ever to reach that mark.

Then came the volatility. SpaceX erased roughly $400b in market value in a single day, while Musk’s fortune fell about $240b from its peak over the following week.

Elon Musk, the wealthiest person alive, became the first-ever trillionaire when SpaceX stock began trading on Friday.

The company's founder and CEO owns roughly four out of every 10 SpaceX shares after the initial public offering.

SpaceX hit markets at a valuation of nearly $2 trillion, allowing Musk to accrue hundreds of millions of dollars in new wealth, at least on paper. It marked the largest IPO of all time.

Her Cowboy Carter Tour became the most successful country music tour in history, generating $450 million in ticket and merchandise sales.
