The election and enrollment period for the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs for the 2026 crop year will run from September 16 through December 11, 2026.

The Agricultural and Food Policy Center (AFPC) at Texas A&M University has developed the 2026 FSA ARC/PLC Expected Payments decision tool to help producers evaluate their program options. The decision tool is available at https://afpc.tamu.edu/tools.

A new Farm Bill hasn't passed in 7 years. Within that time, production costs have greatly increased while crop prices have relatively stayed the same. Producers are in desperate need of updated policies and safety net provisions.

Earlier this week, USDA announced that ARC & PLC election and enrollment period for the 2026 crop year will run from September 16 through December 11, 2026. While producers may have a clearer sense of what yields will be, the marketing year average price is far from settled. As a result, when they make their election and enrollment decisions over the next 3 months, they must take that uncertainty into account.

Check out the link below to view a general walk-through of a decision tool created by Texas A&M's Agricultural and Food Policy Center.

Cotton can look “done” and still trick you into spending money in the wrong places. In this episode of the UGA Extension Talkin' Cotton Podcast, the team sits down to work through the late-season questions, especially the big one: when to terminate irrigation.

They cover picker maintenance and daily checks, cleaning out last year’s lint and debris, and watching humidity so you don't pick too early or push too late. "Just because the picker can run faster doesn’t mean it should."

They finish with late-season insect management and defoliation strategy, including how boll age affects plant bug and stink bug decisions, why you often have to live with whiteflies but still manage them until defoliation, and what they’re learning about jassids as they shift to late, greener cotton.
