๐Ÿ€There's nothing "lucky" about digital ad performance. It's the result of careful strategy and a lot of relatively unsexy optimizations. The image in this post is real week-over-week campaign data from a client that came to us last week looking to scale their campaigns. They wanted to push their investment up between 3x and 10x per location to see what would happen.

So, while most of the campaigns in this chart are "in the green" week over week, the real story is actually the data that we cropped out of this post. The CPA in the locations we scaled skyrocketed and showed up red week-over-week.

The client is excited, and wants to invest more.

Although our week over week CPA jumped, we're still well below the breakeven acquisition cost for their new customers. So, we're going to keep investing... so they can see even more... green.

Most local businesses have heard of Google Search Ads. But did you know Google also has a pay per lead option? Local Services Ads (LSAs) show up at the very top of the results and, in many categories, you can pay per call or per qualified lead instead of paying for clicks.

That can be a big deal if you know what a lead is worth and you want more predictable acquisition costs.

The catch: LSAs work differently than Search Ads. You get less control over the exact searches you appear for, and your Google Business Profile and reviews matter a lot.

Some ad campaigns become iconic, and some celebrate icons. Remember when Betty White became crazy popular about 15 years ago? This week's spotlights Snickersโ€™ โ€œYouโ€™re Not You When Youโ€™re Hungryโ€ ad from 2010.

Created by BBDO, the commercial premiered during Super Bowl XLIV and became an instant classic. Featuring Betty White โ€œtacklingโ€ a game of backyard football, the ad reminds us that hunger can take us a little off our game.

The ad sparked a grassroots movement that brought Betty to new heights of pop-culture fame.

So many of our ads debuted during the Super Bowl. Itโ€™s literally impossible to choose one (let alone 10 or 20) that are the best ads ever. Regardless, when it comes to iconic Super Bowl ads, the Budweiser Frogs are impossible to forget. Debuting during Super Bowl XXIX in 1995, the three frogsโ€”Bud, Weis, and Erโ€”croaked their way into advertising history.

The campaign became a cultural phenomenon, spawning sequels, merchandise, and even a storyline featuring the wisecracking Budweiser chameleons who replaced the frogs in later ads. (Did anyone have the chameleonโ€™s music album? Yes, it was a thing.)

Adweek called it one of the โ€œmost iconic alcohol campaigns in advertising history.โ€ If we have any criticism for the campaign, itโ€™s that 5+ years of beer frogs and lizards got stale.
