I am thinking about adding a general "consulting" package, but want to nail down what people are after.

Quick marketing thought:

While social media advertising is not really an expertise of mine (I just throw cats at the internet), it was really illuminating at a recent conference, how many conversations at my table (often leading to sales) began with, "Oh, I've seen you on social media."

I think there's some cynicism about social media's use in reaching readers, and some of it is warranted (a lot of what we do does not move books directly. The algorithm sucks.), but there is something to be said about the adage that people need to see something 7 times before they make a purchase decision. While you might not make direct sales off social media posts, the familiarity you are building up may do heavy lifting for you in ways that you can't track down the line.

My best self-editing tip: I make a list of words I know I tend to overuse and then I go through the manuscript using "find/replace" to see if I can cut them out.

This week, a fairly large page I follow that usually posts animal content started posting random clickbait news, gross medical picture, and other sus links.

They'd been ha cked.

It sucks, and I hope they get their account back, but I'm sure plenty of their followers, just used to trusting links posted on that page, got malware because they clicked one or more of the links trying to see what was going on before they realized what it was.

I do feel this underscores ANOTHER reason why your email list is important. Sometimes you lose a major avenue like Facebook or Instagram due to a ha cker or a Bot-Ban or something else beyond your control.

If you have an email list, you have a way to get the news out fast to your most faithful followers.

You can even export your email follower list and keep it on a secure drive so that if your email is ha cked you can move that list to another provider and contact them anyway. It's a resource you control.
