Today is Emma Nutt Day: the anniversary of the day in 1878 that Emma Nutt became the world's first female telephone operator, hired by Alexander Graham Bell himself.

Her entire job was connecting people who had no way to reach each other on their own.

That's not so different from what happens every day in BNI. Someone has a problem. Someone else knows exactly who can solve it. The connection is the whole product.

Be somebody's Emma Nutt this week. Make one introduction between two people who need to meet.

For Sinek, giving is a strategy. It's a deliberate choice. The kind that separates people who build something lasting from people who only chase a quick win.

Lucy Cronly mentioned an old college project during a casual BNI chat — a book idea she'd never finished.

She wasn't asking for anything. She was just talking.

A fellow member overheard, said "I know someone," and introduced her to a publisher. Months later, Lucy's book was in print.

Nobody in that chain got anything out of it upfront. Each person just passed the favor forward, until it reached someone who could actually help.

That's the whole idea in one story: help enough people get what they want, and the help finds its way back to you too. It's the same principle we call 𝙂𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙂𝙖𝙞𝙣®.

Greyson backs every job with a lifetime warranty — the kind even the manufacturers of the film he uses won't offer. That's not a sales gimmick. That's a young business owner deciding customers' outcomes matter more than his own bottom line.

Most people network by asking "what can I get here?" Flip that question and watch what happens.

Before your next conversation, ask yourself one thing: what does this person actually want? A client. A connection. Just someone to listen. Figure that out first, and you're already ahead of 90% of the room.

Small starts count. Share a contact. Make an introduction. Say a genuine word of praise about someone's work, out loud, where others can hear it.

You don't need a big favor to give. You need a first one.
