Pineapple Press & Design

Pineapple Press & Design Letterpress & Design I offer a variety of letterpress and design services to add that memorable personal touch. I offer complete wedding stationery packages.

When you’re looking to send message that has a personal touch with your message, you’re looking for fully custom, hand-crafted letterpress ephemera (just a fancy way of saying paper goods that are meant to be kept). In some projects, I have artistic license to both design and print the piece. In other projects, I work closely with a graphic designer to achieve their vision. My clients are individu

als, couples, and companies who share my passion for the feel of paper and the personal touch of a hand-made greeting. I would be pleased to create your next stationery.

I’m printing a chapbook version of the Declaration of Independence in honor of the United States on the newest press to the shop the nineteenth century R.Hoe & Co iron hand press.

This time I started with a digital concept and now I’m hand-setting moveable type. I’m pushing my typesetting skills using all moveable type from my collection, to pay homage to traditional . This is Goudy Old Style designed by arguably the most prolific American printer & typographer, Frederic . This is 8 point so it’s small. I needed to make spacing material, because 8 pt is small and I need to make micro adjustments. To put the size in perspective, there are 9 lines of 8 pt type to an inch. #419

MEET THE PRESS: This is Statler, named after the grumpy Muppet in the balcony. Around the shop it’s also affectionately called Ol’ Cranky. Statler is an early 20th century Chandler & Price Pilot platen press and because of its one armed cranking motion and printing area, it’s best for small runs of greeting cards, envelopes, and business cards. I also use this press for workshops such as Monograms, Bookmarks, and Greeting cards. If you’d like to learn how to use it, make sure to check out my website for those types of classes.

I’ve yet to see if this new process of stretching a tympan on the frame of the R.Hoe & Co. iron hand press will work as effectively as I hope. I’ll report back, but so far I’m really pleased with the tension and how it looks. No more packaging tape on the mockup. Nothing like techniques to give the satisfaction of a job well done. Ooo, that reminds me, I’ll need to dampen some paper tonight! Yes, that’s right, printing is better done wet.

Working through printing a 32-page I’m looking for ways to stay organized with where each pages fits within the whole and which page is which, I’ve come up with color coding each group of pages and setting them up on galleys.

Field trips & visitors. I am feeling filled. It was a great roadtrip with to Phil Driscoll’s Square Text Press. Dustin and I are creating a of his [Platonic Love] and utilizing Phil’s Linotype, skills, and knowledge. I showed off my typesetting skills on the finishing up a few text edits. Phil & I then problem solved my crazy for the titling. I’ve wanted to push the Linotype machine to learn how to do out of the box typesetting. It worked brilliantly because Phil shared a few tricks and we have a plan of attack the next time I head up to finish the titles.

When I returned to Pineapple Press & Design, Bill Foraker was in his shop in Downtown Toledo and I encouraged him to stop by on his way home to see a few new things, one of which being the R. Hoe & Co. iron hand press that has been added since his last visit.

Did you know?

Monograms have a rich history dating back to ancient Greece, where they were originally used as a way to signify ownership and identity, and over the centuries, they have evolved into a timeless design element that adds a personal touch to anything from stationery to home décor.

I'm excited to dive deeper into this fascinating topic and invite you to join me for a fun workshop where you can create your very own monogrammed stationery! If you can’t make it, don’t worry—I have monograms available for purchase so you can still enjoy this beautiful art form.

I can't wait to see you there and share in this creative journey together!
