This time of year often means “overdrive” for many of us. While we can’t necessarily change the growing demands for our time and attention, we can make downtime and rest a priority. Taking some time for rest and restoration is even more important when we are in overdrive. Hope this weekend allows you some time for the rest that you need and deserve.
Rest is preventative self-care. Being ‘on’ all the time has a metabolic cost for the brain and body. We need to rest to feel our best. Sometimes this might mean cancelling plans or postponing a few things, and that is okay. Your well-being matters too.
Rest can be spending time alone to clear your mind, sort out your thoughts, and feel more like yourself.
It can be stepping away from your ‘to-do’ list for a few hours or days. This does not mean you’re giving up. It just means you are allowing yourself to refuel and come back later with fresh energy to finish things even better.
It can also mean doing something that rejuvenates your soul so you can become emotionally and mentally stronger.
If you’re feeling exhausted, I encourage you to look at your schedule and prioritize rest - preferably for a full day or at least an evening. Move things around if you need to and let go of the false sense of urgency that prevents you from taking a break.
How will you make time for rest this weekend?
Take care of your mind and body.
Love, Nawal ♥️
