🚒💧 DO YOU CHECK YOUR HYDRANTS?
When was the last time you looked at a fire hydrant in your neighborhood?
Most people walk past them every day without realizing how important they are during a fire emergency.
For firefighters, a hydrant is more than just a water source, it must be accessible, visible, and ready to work when needed.
Before connecting a hose line, firefighters may flush and inspect a hydrant to:
✅ Help remove sediment, rust, and debris
✅ Verify that the hydrant is operating properly
✅ Reduce the chance of debris entering pumps, hoses, and nozzles
✅ Observe water flow before establishing a water supply
✅ Help identify potential flow or pressure issues
🚨 A hydrant should also be:
✔ Visible from the street
✔ Free from vegetation, vehicles, and obstructions
✔ Free from leaks or damage
✔ Accessible during emergencies
A blocked, damaged, or neglected hydrant can slow firefighting operations when every second matters.
The next time you pass a fire hydrant, take a quick look.
Is it visible?
Is it accessible?
Is it ready for an emergency?
Small checks can make a big difference.
🚒🔥 Fire is fast. Water supply matters.
