Well... I kinda have to eat my words a little. π
This morning I posted about feeling like I was still searching for my Tulsa tribe. A few hours later, my sweet friend Ana reached out and asked if I wanna go to a pool party. F**k yeah I do!
We were the only Black people there. I still clocked it. A bit of melanin sprinkled here and there. But by the end of the evening, that wasn't the headline I was leaving with. I left thinking less about who was in the room and more about what we shared.
I got to reconnect with people I know from Be love meet some new folks, eat some incredible food, laugh, have conversations that skipped right over the small talk, and spend time with people who genuinely care about healing, growth, and living intentionally.
Before we ate, we stood together in gratitude. Later we found ourselves talking about breaking generational patterns, childhood trauma, and what it means to become the person you're trying to grow into.
While Hannah guided a sound bath, I looked over and noticed this dude I now wish I had a chance to talk more with wearing a shirt that said "Black History is American History." That moment hit me pretty hard.
This morning I was asking, "Where are my people?" Maybe the better question is, "Who shares my values?"
I still hope to find more Black and Brown folx, especially my q***r folx who are into wellness, movement, good food, career goals, and building community. That longing hasn't gone away.
But today reminded me that genuine connection can show up in places I wasn't expecting. There are some genuinely dope ass white people in Tulsa Oklahoma! Lmao. Y'all. I have never had so many white homies before. What ever shape and form I love connecting with people who are really committed to healing, kindness, curiosity, and showing up for one another.
Maybe my tribe isn't going to look exactly how I imagined. Maybe it's already finding me.
I'm still manifesting those spontaneous "meet me at yoga," "let's hit Trader Joe's," "grab a juice after Pilates," kind of friendships.
But today reminded me that gratitude and longing can exist at the same time.
Tulsa... maybe we're getting somewhere. I just need to let the love in. β€οΈ
(I didn't get any pool pics but We took the Macchi out on Friday and she did so good!)
