Joshua Tree Gateway Communities Alliance JTGCA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, community organization, founded to foster the spirit of community advocacy and collaboration.

Our mission is to provide economic growth and development via collective impact in an emerging recreation/rural economy. At Desert Beacon, our mission is to balance the unique needs of our local Joshua Tree Gateway area community with the needs of the property owners and the many visitors they host annually. Our goal is to foster the spirit of eco-stewardship and offer services which are vital to

the local community and to the visitors whom we serve. We are proud to employ local community members to whom we pledge to provide a living wage, paid time off, employee benefits, and opportunities for professional growth within our organization. We are also proud to work with local property owners and hosts to ensure that the guests we serve are well taken care of and are provided the resources they need to ensure that tourism can continue to be a sustainable part of our local economy.

Smith didn’t just talk about preparedness—she lived it, carried it, and made sure everyone around her did too.

Over the next two months, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department will continue its popular “Lady Be Aware” training sessions. This comprehensive, one-day, eight-hour course is designed to equip women with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to protect themselves from potential threats to their personal safety.

The first half of the course is classroom-based, covering essential topics such as cyber safety, home safety, and situational awareness. Participants will learn to recognize and avoid potential dangers in various environments. The second half involves hands-on training, including weaponless defensive tactics and an introduction to handling fi****ms.

Upcoming classes are scheduled on Saturday, January 24 and Saturday, February 21. Each session runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Department Training Center, 18901 Institution Road in Devore. The course is open to women aged 16 and older; those under 18 can enroll with a guardian. The cost of the training is $75 per person. Due to its popularity, spots fill up quickly, so early registration is encouraged. To reserve your place, email [email protected]
