Automation.com published an article about the two winners of Manufacturing’s Best Startups Awards presented by Hexagon.

In this article, we learn RIIICO, who makes interactable digital layouts of factory floors, and SmartParts, who produces digital barcodes that are embedded within 3-D printed airplane parts.

We asked WynHouse’s Sean Eirons about the article.

His thoughts:

“The "Sims-Style" virtual factory floor was pretty cool to learn about.

I think it will move along the ideation phase and give them a "real time" look and design of what they want, instead of having to have a whole team come in and try to draw something up.

SmartParts was interesting because they figured out a way to control what to ship.

It’s scary to think there's over 500,000 fake parts going aircrafts.

Their product prevents those fake parts from getting mixed in while allowing them to record where the parts come from.”

What is something important to consider when trying to retain your workers in the manufacturing industry?

Listen to your employees' feedback.

59% of employees globally are engaged in their job when asked for feedback…

…as opposed to 42% who weren’t offered a feedback opportunity.

Listening to your employees’ input leads to process and technology changes that will be helpful.

By optimizing the technology and software used, your workers will be more productive and less stressed.

Providing training for these new implementations prevents burnout among your employees.

These are just some solutions to retaining current employees and attracting new ones.

Henry is a manager at a solar cell manufacturing company.

After the pandemic, he now deals with a shortage of skilled workers on a regular basis.

Instead of focusing on managing his facility, Henry instead spends a majority of his time interviewing potential hires.

He rewrites the current hiring process in order to get enough workers in his business.

While he’s doing this, current workers are put under stress due to the lack of workers.

This is where software helps.

Henry can implement any number of solutions to improve his employees’ experience, as well as attract new hires.

By doing this, Henry can cut hiring costs and spend more time focused on his employees’ and facilities’ needs.

What software ideas do you have that will enhance your employees’ experiences?

Thomson Reuters published an article about how accounting agencies can optimize their service offerings by automating certain processes and re-organizing their internal structure.

We asked WynHouse’s Nathan Meller his thoughts on the article:

“Every type of business can benefit from automation.

Even High-skill and high customer contact businesses such as accounting firms.

In the case of accounting firms, by automating routine tasks, talent is freed up to engage with the customer in more meaningful ways.

A scenario such as this is what most inspires me about firms adopting automated processes.

Saving time and money to provide more value to customers is a concept every business should advocate for.”

James works in a hospital and wants to see which works better for collecting data: paper or a software solution.

After collecting data for a study, James thought back on his experiences.

When James used a computer to input his findings, he only had to record it once.

The data was then in a centralized system and could be viewed from any device.

Looking at the paper data, James had to manually input it into a computer to allow his teammates to view it.

When recording on paper, James manually entered his findings into the computer one entry at a time.

Since this data wasn’t in a centralized system originally, James had to put in more work than using a software system.

Not only is James’s data easier to access when he uses a computer, he kept his data pool more accurate with better technology.

Accurate data leads to better decision-making processes for James and his team.

These more-informed decisions keep patients safe and make the hospital a safer environment for all involved.

Digital transformation of the hospital’s systems did away with paper research and allowed for more efficient processes.

Computer technology is shaking up the manufacturing industry.

This article from Aegis Software details how new software integrates and centralizes different tools together, amongst other things.

Using this compilation of tech, manufacturing companies have more efficient access to the software they need.

These apps include quality management and enterprise manufacturing intelligence (EMI) software.

Companies that used these “toolboxes” of tech saw their annual net profit margins grow by 19.4%, as reported in the article.
