We assist companies in creating a safe work environment and a safety culture.
When working in cold weather, construction workers should follow safety tips to prevent hypothermia and frostbite.
These tips include:
Dress in layers: Wear at least three layers of loose-fitting clothing, including a moisture-wicking base layer, an insulating layer, and a waterproof and windproof outer layer
Protect extremities: Wear insulated gloves and boots, and cover your head with a hat or hood
Stay dry: Avoid wet clothing, and pack extra clothes
Take breaks: Set up a heated break area, and take frequent breaks in warm, dry areas
Stay hydrated: Drink warm liquids and eat healthy foods
Monitor your health: Check your physical condition and that of your coworkers
Warm up equipment: Allow equipment to warm up before use
Provide emergency supplies: Keep emergency kits handy, and stock the job site with emergency supplies
Reduce drafts: Provide insulating floor coverings or special footwear when workers have to stand for long periods on cold floors
Postpone work if necessary: If temperatures drop below 10°F, postpone work or move indoors until the temperature rises again
