All finished up with the Xpel PPF wrap on this sweet ‘62 VW Cab.

On a personal note, 6 out of 7 of my first cars were all Air cooled VWs so this one brought back some early memories for me. Wrapping this one was a challenge, but I think I did it justice. Everything that was in the way was removed and each panel was fully wrapped in order to hide all edges possible, then carefully reassembled.

This was a multiple award winning build when it was first built. Now that its show duty is over it can be driven with the confidence of knowing that it will stay looking as fresh as possible.

Here is the finished Cobra full body PPF wrap project outside in the sun for the first time, along with a few in-process vids during the installation. I am specifically focusing on how the unavoidable seams turned out and where they are placed.

I have done a few Cobras in my 28 year career but they were all replicas of the 427 cars with the larger grill opening, and they all had the stripes up the middle to hide seams on. This, being a replica of the earlier small block cars with the smaller grill and pointier nose, was the most challenging by far with the area around the grill and insides of the headlights being the most difficult are to do. I utilized the yellow stripe and the number meatball as a good place to hide seams. The unavoidable visible seams are at the peaks of the four fenders then down vertically, centered through the lights front and rear. I also ended up with a vertical seam on either side of the chin scoop, around the perimeter of the grill opening and one on either side of the scoop in the hood. I also double-layered the area on the front flared portion of the quarter panels. I protected the glass headlights and installed windshield protection while I was at it too.

Would you have wrapped this any differently , and if so, how? I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

I’m starting in on the Cobra PPF application today. This will be a full body PPF wrap, and while I’ve done a few Cobras over the years this will be the first without a stripe up the middle that creates a natural break to hide seams on. There will be visible seams on this one, there’s just no way around it, so I’ll just have to find a way to make it look as natural and clean as possible.

The most obvious way to wrap the main body in my eye is to split the fenders / quarter panels at their peaks with the seam centered through the middle of the head and tail lights. The entire side of the car will be a single piece of film that covers the front fender, rocker and rear quarter, while the center of the nose from the cowl to the bottom under the grills in front will be another single piece, and the center rear will be another single piece from the rear of the cockpit down to the very bottom below the trunk lid.

Disassembly / removal of all of the parts that are in the way is complete. It’s time to start laying some film.

I’m starting on this absolutely gorgeous ’71 Porsche 911 hot rod. This restification was a labor of love where cost was not an issue and no bolt was left unturned. The fit and finish on this car, for an early 911, is top notch. We plan on helping it stay that way.

I just wrapped up the Susuki Jimney of Crankshaft Culture in partnership with XPEL using their colored PPF and WPF (windshield protection) films.

This little critter is going to look good, stay protected and wow them at the overlanding events it will attend!
