As 2025 comes to a close, Hitchcock Design Group is entering an exciting new chapter as part of RVi and the Atwell family of companies.

We are exceedingly grateful to our clients, partners, and teams who have shaped Hitchcock into what it is today. What matters most isn’t changing: the people you work with, the relationships we’ve built, and our commitment to thoughtful, people-centered storytelling and design.

What is changing is what we can offer. Together with RVi and Atwell, we’re expanding our reach, resources, and expertise, allowing us to support more complex projects and grow alongside our clients.

How can a dinosaur help to encourage inclusive play?

Southeast Metro Park is an inclusive all-abilities playground built with universal components to create an area of play that supports the cognitive, physical, sensory, visual, and auditory needs of all children, and includes a very special creature... er, feature.

Our amazing fabrication partner, Gametime recently dropped this wonderful video, which provides a 150-million-year-old backstory from HDG designers Andrew Howard and Trent Rush on the creation of this unique playground.

We are delighted to share that the American Institute of Architects, Northeast Illinois chapter has awarded the new Downers Grove Civic Center development its People’s Choice Award for 2025!

The Village of Downers Grove, Illinois - Municipal Government challenged our team to design the landscape using only native plantings, without using turf or non-native ornamental plants. Through detailed conversations about aesthetic and maintenance expectations, we were able to balance their desire to create a showcase of sustainability with the practical realities of the function of an active public space.

The approach seems to have resonated with the citizens of Downers Grove, which is most rewarding and we are super grateful to design partners Eriksson Engineering Associates and Selbert Perkins Design!

Thank you, Illinois Library Association for hosting HDG Design Principal Dave Frigo in an in-depth discussion about fostering outdoor community at Barrington Area Library!

More BALibrary wisdom at today’s session of the 2025 annual conference in Rosemont! This afternoon, Executive Director Jason Pinshower and Library Board Vice President Jennifer Lucas joined with Dave Frigo of Hitchcock Design Group to share their experiences in creating an outdoor master plan for the Barrington Area Library. We love our beautiful outdoor spaces and creating wonderful experiences for you, our community, in those spaces.

Yesterday, Senior Principal Trent Rush joined our client and development partners in a lively groundbreaking ceremony at the The Merc. Located on UTSA Blvd. in the heart of the hottest growth area of San Antonio, The Merc will feature more than 35,000 sq. ft. of restaurant and retail space, luxury apartments and townhomes and a trail system along Leon Creek.

HDG is proud to be handling masterplanning, landscape design and brand identity.

Talk about growing a community! McHenry Riverwalk Shoppes in McHenry, Illinois is an innovative small business incubator model that offers a supportive environment for emerging businesses. The program allows selected businesses to grow through partnerships, Chamber membership, workshops, and marketing assistance, helping them transition from the shoppes to permanent storefronts. HDG is delighted to play a part in the design of this vital community hub!

Doug Fair is a Principal at Hitchcock Design Group with a passion for designing recreation spaces that bring communities together. A graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he combines a lifelong love of sports with a natural talent for design to create places that are both meaningful and memorable.

Doug believes every project is an opportunity to craft something new and unique. His ability to listen, collaborate, and translate community vision into lasting spaces has made him a trusted partner for recreation providers and their stakeholders.
