There are some books that stay with you long after you’ve turned the final page—and Rollo, A Lowcountry Puppy’s Tale is one of them.
This beautiful, heartfelt story explores the bond between pets and the families who love them—and gently reminds us that love doesn’t end when life does. Told through the eyes of a puppy, Rollo’s journey offers comfort and hope to children and families navigating the loss of a beloved pet.
This project came with a unique challenge. The illustrations were originally created over 10 years ago, so we carefully had each piece professionally scanned, color-corrected, and thoughtfully arranged to fit the book’s layout. Bringing this artwork back to life—and ensuring it flowed seamlessly with the story—required both technical precision and a deep understanding of visual storytelling.
Children’s books like this demand more than simple layout—they require thoughtful pacing, careful placement of text and imagery, and a design approach that supports the emotional experience of the reader. Every spread was considered to preserve the integrity of the original artwork while guiding young readers smoothly through the story.
The artwork itself is especially meaningful—created by Hilda Stark, a childhood friend of the author, a fine artist, and an Emmy Award–winning production designer for film and television. Her work brings a richness and emotional depth to every page.
I’m also grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Lucy Davis of MarketNext Communications—partnerships like this are what make these projects so rewarding.
Congratulations to author Adrienne Love on creating a story that will truly make a difference for families.
