This is long but be sure to read the ENTIRE Post. Some people are asking what happened to human decency on the post we made the other day, so I want to ask what happened to common sense? For everyone insisting we should hand over purses, wallets, or personal items to whoever asks for these items — would YOU be okay with us releasing YOUR belongings to anyone who asked? Of course not. There are laws that determine who we can release property to, and we are required to follow them. The people who inquired about these items were told what those laws were and what needed to be done.
Yes, money was discussed — but NOT as a condition to remove personal items from the vehicle. That accusation is completely false.
A child’s blanket was never asked about at our office. That accusation is also completely false. Had it been, I can promise you that we would have done everything possible to get permission from the rightful person so that blanket could be returned to that child. We have children of our own and know how much a favorite item means to a child at all times and I’m sure even more so after a horrific accident. Yes, we were asked about getting the “kids stuff” but nothing specific.
If we were as heartless or as crooked as some of these comments suggest, we wouldn’t still be in business — and law enforcement certainly wouldn’t continue to use our company if we were doing all the terrible things people are claiming.
Please remember that not everything is black and white, and just because something is posted online does not make it true. More often than not, there is more to the story than what’s being shared — whether it involves our company, another company, or an individual.
We will continue to handle these situations responsibly and respectfully, and we will not discuss the personal reasons why items cannot be released to whoever is asking, whether that person was involved in the 911 call — whether it was an impound or an accident — or is simply someone inquiring. Sharing those details would reveal private information about the people involved, and we will not violate anyone’s privacy.
The individuals we speak to always know the legal reason of why they can’t retrieve items and how to correct these items— whether they agree with it or not, and whether they choose to share the full story or not is up to them.
