It’s Dolly Day, and I’m a huge Dolly Parton fan.
Of course I love her music. But what I’ve always loved most about Dolly is the way she treats people. With kindness. With love. With the belief that everybody matters.
She’s spent decades putting that belief into action, including giving millions of books to children through her Imagination Library because she understands what stories can do.
And Dolly has always been one heck of a storyteller herself.
“Coat of Many Colors.” “Jolene.” “9 to 5.” So many of her songs aren’t just songs. They’re stories about people, relationships, struggles, memories and everyday life.
I think that’s part of why her music connects with so many of us.
We all have stories.
The funny things that happened years ago. The people we’ve loved. The jobs we’ve had. The places we’ve been. The things we’re proud of. The things we’d do differently. And sometimes, just what happened today.
But a story becomes something different when there’s another person there who genuinely wants to hear it.
That idea is at the heart of Human Conversation Services.
We create consistent opportunities for older adults to talk, share, laugh, reminisce and simply have a real conversation with someone who is interested in what they have to say.
So today, I’m celebrating Dolly for the music, the stories, the books, and especially the example she has set for treating people with kindness.
Because everybody has a story.
And everybody deserves someone who wants to hear it.
Happy Dolly Day! 💖
